Luxury lipsticks are among some of my most frivolous interests. I'll happily natter on about different brands, formulas and shades to the point where others get alarmed. I don't think it's completely ridiculous, though, to enjoy a good lipstick. It's my absolute favourite item of make-up for a good reason - it makes me feel put-together and confident like nothing else can.
This might give some way to a rational explanation as to why I am so obsessed with luxe lip products. I've picked some of my favourite formulas over €30 - so in case you're thinking of treating yourself at the end of the most miserable month of the year, here's what I recommend! It goes without saying that all of these have amazing packaging and formulas - it was pretty hard to whittle it down to a top four...
Estée Lauder Colour Envy - Carnal*
These are incredible. The texture is almost like a gel but doesn't appear overly glossy on the lips. It is incredibly comfortable to wear and very mosturising for a lipstick of this pigment level. Colour Envy stays around for ages and wears off in a very flattering manner. My favourite shade? Carnal, an aptly-named, sexy orangey-red. You see Carnal in action in my Estée Lauder favourites post here!
Tom Ford Lip Colour in True Coral
Breed the Colour Envy range with the very best of MAC lipsticks and you'll get Tom Ford. This is worth paying for in a very twisted way - sure, the price is extortionate, but I still don't regret buying mine, and I'd happily pick up another. These are delicious - they have a strong vanilla scent, which I love, and they just feel buttery on the lips. They're hydrating, comfortable, long-lasting and just awesome altogether. True Coral is also a truly beautiful shade, it gives a lot of life to my face and really brings out the blue in my eyes. Because I am a mental person, I wore this giving an important final presentation at the end of college and it definitely helped my mental state. For that reason alone, I recommend these!
NARS Audacious Lipstick in Barbara
This was one of my absolute favourite releases of 2014 and I can't wait to try another shade. I wrote all about Barbara here - the shade is a perfect mauvey-nude, similar to MAC's Velvet Teddy, but a little deeper. I love the satin formula of this lipstick and it stays around for ages without feeling too heavy. Where the Audacious range really wins, though, is with the shade range. It is so on point - there is something for everyone and they seem to have managed to make several shades I thought I was 'over' - pinks in particular - look completely fresh and reworked.
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine
These are so good that I have two. Pictured is Rebelle, a sheer tomato-red; I love this for summer in particular. The Rouge Coco Shine is something quite special - it's probably the most weightless formula of lipstick I've ever tried, more akin to a balm. Again, the shades are so spot-on - the other one I have is Boy, a timeless mid-toned nude. This is the lipstick that I credit with finally making me hop on the nude bandwagon, and it's a universally flattering colour - if you're looking for a good neutral bridal shade I'd definitely recommend this teamed with a good liner like Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk.
