Day 3 Hair

I have devised a way to get three full days out of a hair wash. This is huge. You see, I don't have particularly greasy hair. Yet, despite that, my hair was always crying out to be washed by the end of Day 2. It would end up looking lank and stringy and there wasn't a hope in hell that I could let it go until the next day. Now, that's all changed and I love it because I hate the whole hair washing process with a passion..

Black Friday Deals

While, somewhat sadly, the traditions of Thanksgiving haven't made it to this side of the pond (who doesn't love an excuse for a huge feed?!), the shopping extravaganza that is Black Friday has slowly been filtering its way into our consciousness. Retailers here, mainly online, have finally copped on to the fact that they can generate even more revenue pre-Christmas by allowing us to jump on the Black Friday bandwagon.

We've rounded up the best deals of the 2014 Black Friday shopping weekend and have them all listed here,  including dates,  discounts and coupon codes, to make your shopping experience all the easier! Just click the logo to take you straight to the site of your choice. Hopefully all of the codes work and do let everyone know in the comments if you find another amazing deal this weekend. Happy Shopping!

Christmas Gift Guide ¦ Beauty Tools

Round Two of our Gift Guide is all about beauty tools! From investment purchases to some nifty little stocking fillers, there's something really useful here for whoever you're buying for. Read on for our shoppable pick of the best brushes, hairdryers and more!

I don't have a lot of free time. That's not a moan - I love to be busy and productive. However, over the last year, I have been trying give more to my health and well being. Whether that's been losing weight, investing more time into my skincare or taking better care of my teeth, I've been on a journey. Yet, I never addressed my mental well being along-the-way.

Going from work to gym to home to blogging, I didn't switch off at any point during the week and that was exhausting. At the weekends, while I was a lot more relaxed and chilled out, I was still permanently glued to my phone/iPad/laptop/camera so, my mind was never truly at ease. So, I've been focusing on getting in some downtime; just me, in my room, doing something enjoyable with no pressure attached to it and I wanted to share what little things have been making a huge difference in my day-to-day life.

Urban Decay Setting Sprays

For years, I totally rubbished the idea of a setting spray. I have oily skin, why would I spray anything on my face after powdering it?! Years of watching girls rave on YouTube did lead to me buying a mini MAC Fix+ a couple of years back - I wasn't all that fussed about it at the time, but more recently I've really come to rely on setting sprays.

A Blue Sunday

Who doesn't love a bit of The Doors?!

I was literally singing Blue Sunday all day yesterday so, I felt it was appropos to pay homage with this post - my first real stab at an outfit/style post. Go easy on me!

The occasion? An early Sunday lunch to celebrate my grandaunt's 80th birthday.

Palettes of Note

2014 has really been the year of the eyeshadow palette for me. So many good ones have come into my life and, with Christmas just around the corner, I wanted to round-up my favourites in case you were in need of gift ideas. All are currently available, contain a mix of neutrals and I've included a mix of high-end and drugstore, pre-made and DIY so, hopefully there will be something for everyone here.

Homemade Chorizo Oil

I'm a big fan of chorizo and, because I eat a high-fat low-carb diet, it fits in perfectly. Olive oil is also a great way to help me meet the daily fat quotas but, unfortunately, I don't really like the taste of it.

One day I had a wee brainwave. Considering chorizo leeches so much amazing, spicy oil when it's cooked, why not cook it in olive oil to make my own flavoured version. I did a trial run with some left over chorizo and a small bottle of generic brand oil and, 25 minutes later, I was left with a lightly flavoured, shocking amber coloured liquid.

For the Love of Highlighters

God. You really can't beat a good highlight, can you?

This post was spurred on by the realisation that I had basically been using the same highlighter every day since August and the knowledge that there were probably a handful more in the back of my drawer that I had forgotten all about. So, I dug them out. Some were shite and found their way to the bin but, there are some gems in this lot here and I've been circulating through them, loving how a quick sweep across the cheekbones brings winter skin alive.

Party Season Prep

Hands up who has a string of nights out on their agenda over the next month and a half? Not that I'm complaining, of course - I'm already loving the countdown to Christmas! I had my first big night out of the party season last week (a masquerade ball!) and found that in the prepping stages, the products I used gave me a real dig-out. They're products I'll definitely be keeping in my rotation for the next while, so I figured I'd share...

Beauty Blender vs Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

I bang on about the Beauty Blender as my preferred method of applying foundation. However, I've been asked a number of times how it stacks up to the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge which is a damn sight cheaper and easier to get our hands on in Ireland. So, when I was in Boots a couple of weeks ago, I threw one into my basket and have been trialling it against the original. For reference, we can order the Beauty Blender brand from Cult Beauty.

Everyday Eye Look: Step-by-Step

When I posted my review of the Make Up For Ever HD Foundation a couple of weeks ago, a good few of you commented on my eyeshadow; what I used, how I did it, would I do a tutorial. By chance, I had actually taken pictures of the process as I wanted to attempt a step-by-step style post. This is my default, go-to eye look and it's very simple and, I like to think, striking. If you like this style of post, do let me know!

Dior Star Foundation Review

Here's a familiar story. As soon as I started seeing reviews of this foundation, I was quite certain I needed to try it out. When I went to a counter and got colour matched, there was no going back. The shade (Porcelain 012) is perfect if you've very pale Irish skin like myself and Sinéad (nine times out of ten, we take the same shade in foundations).

November 17, 2014

It's been a hot second since we did a look inside our make-up bags so, I thought I would correct that and show you what's been a mainstay in my little on-the-go make-up pouch for the last few months. As we attend a lot of events in the evenings after work, this little coral Sephora number lives in my handbag and contains everything I could need for make-up touch-ups.

Kiehls Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50

I bought this as part of a mega "haul" a few weeks ago which, if you missed, you can catch here. It was a purchase that I was basically strong armed into by Dee and Sarah and I am so glad they were as insistent about it as they were because this, the Kiehls Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50, is some good shit.

Wrap Me Up

I adore winter. Christmas is in winter. Cosy nights by the fire happen in winter. It's literally the only season here in Ireland that can be relied on not to just blend into the others in a mush of kinda warm, kinda cold, kinda wet and kinda windy. Winter is crisp and cold and startlingly bright and requires us to wrap up warm and cosy. Given that I am a fiend for coats and scarves (I didn't lick it off the stones - thanks mam!), it's no wonder that winter is my favourite season of all and today I want to sing the praises of the blanket scarf because, ladies, it don't get much cosier than this!

Regaining & Relosing Weight

It's high time for a weightloss update. When I left you, I had just reached the milestone of 20lb lost and was off on a two-week holiday. As I mentioned then, I hoped to make wise food choices without restricting myself but, I was mentally preparing myself to gain weight over the duration. What I didn't really prepare myself for was just how much weight I would gain.

I thought about writing this post then but, I figured it would be more informative for you to do it once I had relost the regained weight, especially with Christmas right around the corner and the inevitable gains to be had then! So, here it is; how it happened, how I relost it, how long it took, the whole sorry tale!

InStyler Review

The InStyler is a hair tool that has been doing the rounds on blogs and YouTube for quite some time now. It kind of combines the Babyliss Big Hair with both a curling wand and a hair straightener to offer one tool that can deliver everything from Kate Middleton-esque curls to a super sleek "blowout" effect. The brand launched in Ireland earlier this year and we were sent a couple of 32mm InStylers* to check out. Given that we have very different hair types, we thought we'd team up for this one to give you a fuller picture on whether the InStyler is worth the €120 spend. Grab a cuppa because this is the very definition of an in-depth review!

Clarins The Essentials Palette - 2014

It seems that every few weeks now there is a new 'it' palette; a must-have that is more often than not limited edition. The beauty industry have finally cottoned on to out nude eyeshadow obsession and seem to be doing quite well out of it.

Last year, it was very interesting to see a rather traditional brand like Clarins get right on the bandwagon; I never tried it myself but, by all accounts their first Essentials palette was a very nice piece of kit indeed. I heard back during the summer that Clarins would be releasing another Essentials for 2014. I've been trialling this for a couple of weeks now and, although I can't compare this to the original, what I can tell you is that I would have been quite disappointed had
I purchased this myself.

Christmas @ SpaceNK

They say it's the most wonderful time of the year and, with SpaceNK finally at home on Dublin's Grafton Street, this Christmas is shaping up to be particularly wonderful! We went along to the store after hours last night to check out what SpaceNK have coming down the line for us this festive season from brands like Diptique, Laura Mercier and By Terry and, while we would easily buy one of everything, we whittled it down to our top picks and took note of the euro pricing for you too so you can budget whether you plan on shopping in-store or online.

Forgotten Products #2

Back in March I did a post on some great products that had lain forgotten in the depths of my collection. I've been pretty good since then, using a lot more of what I already have and (trying) to make better purchasing choices. However, there are a few items that, while not entirely forgotten about, don't get enough love, both here on the blog and in real life. So, this is their long overdue moment to shine so-to-speak as they really are lovely.

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Barbara

Say hello to what has to be the nicest lipstick I've bought in a long, long time. I am rarely this set on a new release from the get-go but honestly, as soon as I saw pictures of the NARS Audacious lipsticks, I was quite certain I'd be buying one - and that was before I even read the rave reviews.

5 Reds for Fall

I know, I know 'autumn' not 'fall' but, I liked the alliteration! There is a story behind this post as it is, for those who may have been here since the beginning, a rehash of a post from 2011. You see, about two weeks ago, I came across my little-used Google+ profile and noticed that there were over 1,200 photos just lying there. So, I tried to put them into an album, the site froze and when it came back, the photos were no more. Yes, over 1,200 blog photos had just upped and left so, a large majority of posts on this site have dead image links. I'm working to fix them but, I have no hope in finding pictures from four years ago so, I decided to do an updated version of some of the more popular posts and this one, on five of my favourite red nail polishes, was right up there.

The CEO Breakfast

I wish I could tell you that there's something inspirational or motivational behind the name of this dish. Maybe that it sets me up for the day, gets my head in the game, that I strategise and plan over it.

Sadly, there's not and I don't. It's just the ingredients of the breakfast; chorizo, eggs, Onion (and spinach). I'm sorry to disappoint!

An Afternoon with Antipodes

Last Sunday we had the pleasure of attending an afternoon tea hosted by Antipodes in the Westbury Hotel. The New Zealand brand, certified organic and part of a new revolution of 'green beauty' were celebrating their bestselling products taking to the skies and being available on-board flights around the world - only for Business and Premium Economy fliers, mind you, as well as formally introducing it to the Irish market.

The Winter Boot

I have found my perfect winter boot and a hat tip must go to Dee for these ones as it was she who showed me them in the first place. I filed them away under 'Investigate Further' before eventually ordering them last week. These are the Asos Empire Boot and they are exactly what I've been looking for since last winter.

I mentioned here about my black boot problem and, basically, in the search for the perfect pair, I have accumulated quite a collection. To be fair, I do wear them all but, everytime I put a pair on I find myself thinking they are too low/high/pinchy/dressy/biker/cowboy and I reignite the search for the ones that are just right. That is what these are; just right.

They are a little bit biker, a little bit androgynous and definitely remind me a little of the Alexander Wang Anabela boots. Reasons I am so chuffed with them? The rubber sole, chunky heel and wedged front make for a hugely comfortable boot. I can wear these all day with no pain in the balls of my feet and without any fear of taking a tumble - no mean feat for me!

Now, they aren't leather but, then, I don't think they would be as comfortable as they are if they were so, I'm okay with that. They are still available in black on Asos and the brown pair is currently on sale so, if you're in the market, it could be a good time to treat yo'self!

Autumn Eyeshadows from MAC

Even with all of the faffing I do with palettes, there's still sometimes nothing like a good MAC eyeshadow combination. They still hold holy grail status for me and my MAC collection is something I will never part from It seems to be the same for you guys as well, as posts discussing MAC eyeshadows are always pretty damn popular!

This time of year is perfect for cracking out some autumnal tones; russets, golds, bronzes and soft, warm browns. I never get tired of experimenting - after a bit of playing recently, here's some of my favourite MAC shades of all time that just so happen to be bang on for autumn!

MUFE HD Foundation Review

I was full sure that my next foundation purchase would be Dior Star but, with a voucher for MUFE burning a hole in my pocket, I decided that (a) a foundation obtained via such a means didn't count and I can still buy Dior Star (especially now as I have finished the YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat!) and (b) it would be sacrilegious to have a MUFE voucher and not use it to try arguably their most famed product. So, I'm now the proud owner of Make Up For Ever HD Foundation and I totally get the hype.

Beside my Bed

Bit of a creepy title for a blog post, no?! I've never really done one of these 'bedside beauty' posts before but thought it might be a useful way of summarising yet another slew of products that I manage to use quite often - I get through a lot!

Sarah Chapman Skinesis Review

If you've read this post, you'll know the story behind this duo. If you haven't, in short, I ordered the Sarah Chapman Skinesis Overnight Facial from SpaceNK, used it once and was so impressed that I bought the Morning Facial the very next day. Totally out of character for me but, happily I have zero regrets.

The Spa @ Galgorm

Sometimes, opportunities come up that give me more than a touch of what some might term 'impostor syndrome'. I feel so lucky when things come my way that I can share with friends - I won't get too syrupy here, but it's really great and all down to this here blog, so thanks for reading! I was invited to try out the spa at Galgorm, Ballymena a few weeks back, so myself and my BFF Jenny headed down (or rather, up) midweek for the most fun and relaxing overnight in forever.

November 01, 2014

I like to think I'm a pretty restrained, level-headed shopper but, I'm powerless to an Asos sale. When that email lands in my account, I am on it like icing on a cupcake. Take yesterday morning for example, I ordered black ankle boots while eating my eggs n' chorizo breakfast. Two pairs. That very nearly became three. All because Asos have 25% off winter shizz.

And then, last night, beaten down and weary after the long week, I clicked into the sale again. Just to look. Famous last words. The only thing that stopped me buying the peplum dress below was a well-timed WiFi issue (props to UPC for that one - yet again) but, I did catch sight of a few sweet deals on my way to the checkout and wanted to share my picks with you.

I'm a fiend for outerwear; blazer, leather, biker, bomber, trench, parka, coat, you name it, I have it and this red-orange Sister Jane wool moto jacket had me drooling. The fact that it's woolen means it does actually double as both a jacket and a coat so, saving money there people, and the slightly oversized fit is very much on-trend.

Because I like to like to make a statement with what's on the outside, I tend to keep things basic underneath. Generally that means dresses for work and loose knits that can be easily layered for day wear. While not work-appropriate, I loved the look of the navy blue peplum dress for Christmas/New Years - paired with some sky high court shoes for ultimate oomph! I'm not usually one for slogan jumpers but, I'm totally coveting the Zoe Karssen Belle Heir sweater for a warmer jeans n' tee type vibe. A good sight cheaper and more my usual speed is this blue, oversized thin knit from Glamorous. I have a few of these in other colours and they are slouchy, comfy perfection.

I have a black ankle boot problem (ref: 7am breakfast shop-a-thon above) and I would easily buy all of these if I was confident my family wouldn't have me committed. I ordered the leather Road Rage boot after having my eye on them for months and the suede Excite Me boots very nearly came home with me too. Actually, now that I look at them, I'm kind of seeing those killer Aldo leather ones pairing nicely with that peplum dress...dare I?!
