Current Skincare Routine (PM)

A few weeks ago I shared my morning skincare routine and promised I would update you on what I'm using come evening time. At the time I had only just added some new products in so, I didn't feel ready to give opinions on the products but, now my skin has had time to adjust and, thankfully, has responded really well to the new evening regime.

Escentual.com French Pharma Sale - Our Picks

Even new readers to the blog will be aware of how much Dee and I love and rate French skincare brands. There is something so basic, so simple, so conscientious, so unfussy about the way in which the French approach skincare that really appeals to us and, better yet, the vast majority of brands are mid-price and widely available. Well, at least in France!

Happily though, Escentual.com stocks a lot of hard to find brands and products (Hello, Bioderma, anyone?!) and we take frequent advantage of their French pharma brand events when they happen. Now, I was doing some Christmas shopping online last night and ordered...some old favourites for someone, let's just say in case they read this - and saw that the current Escentual French Pharma (up to 30% off) sale was coming to an end on Friday so, we put our heads together and came up with six of our top picks from the sale in case you want to stock up, try out or, as I was doing, prep for Christmas with a decent discount!

5 Must-Watch Halloween Tutorials

I'm not into Halloween at all but, I love watching Halloween tutorials on YouTube. The skills some of these women have are just incredible and, while it isn't my thing, I can appreciate the talent and precision that goes into them - especially as I struggle with even the most basic winged liner! So, if you're stuck for ideas for Friday night or just want to be awestruck, watch these five masters at work and prepare to be amazed!

A Restock

There are certain products that I feel I never shut up about - both here on the blog and in real life. They're products I turn to again and again and I feel that an emphasis on these - what I use and love all the time - deserve a big place on the blog, along with new releases and so on. I've been stocking up on some favourites recently so, take a look at some of my absolute must-haves!

15 Before 2015

Remember Project 10 Pan back in the day? For the uninitiated (or younger than I!), Project 10 Pan was an early YouTube incarnation where "gurus" (ugh) aimed to use up or "hit pan" on 10 products as a means of clearing out their collection. I've decided to resurrect this idea and aim to use up 15 beauty products before 2015 and, in the interest of transparency, I basically want to just clear space in order to buy more shit. To make this goal somewhat realistic, I've allowed myself to include skincare, haircare and bodycare as well as make-up. Here's what I'm hoping to purge pre-2015.

Foolproof Roast Chicken

I cooked my first roast dinner today. Successfully.

We're talking crisp, roasted chicken. We're talking multiple types of veg. We're talking Jamie Oliver-style roasties. As an aside; do you know how hard it is to cook roast potatoes for the first time as someone who doesn't eat potatoes and can't taste them?! I'm assured they were very good though!

However, the chicken is what I wanted to talk about. It was, to quote my dad, the pièce de résistance and the best thing? It's beyond simple.

I usually cook this chicken at least once a week as it is quick, easy, delicious and makes for great salad fodder. The chicken turns out juicy, tender and falling off the bone every time and it's all down to (a) the roasting method and, (b) the rub for the skin.

So, let's deal with the roasting method first. The key is to keep the chicken elevated so it cooks evenly. I throw together a roasting rack by lining a tray with tin foil and popping in a wire rack. I'm pretty sure you can buy a dual-layer tray for this specific purpose but, DIY works just fine.

Next, the rub. In a bowl, mix celery salt, onion salt, cayenne pepper and garlic powder. No measurements, it's all very quick and a bit slapdash.

I like to use skin-on chicken breast on-the-bone, preferably with the wing attached. Plop them on the wire rack and work the rub into the skin. This will crisp up amazingly and give your chicken the most amazing flavour.

For this type of chicken, pop it in a preheated oven at 230C/450F/Gas Mark 8 for 40-45 minutes. It has never taken more than that to cook perfectly. You could use the same rub on chicken wings, thighs or even the whole bird but, promise me something? You won't throw the skin away. It's incredibly delicious and ever so crisp!

One Red Lip To Rule Them All

I talk about red lips a lot on here. It's rare that I don't have a new one on the go; you'd be surprised how many shades of red there are on the spectrum... especially if you're more than a little bit addicted to them. I don't think anybody would entertain buying me yet another red lipstick as a gift - apart from my fabulous partner in crime Sinéad, who gifted me just that from Sephora in Barcelona.

Hair Affairs

I'm thinking about cutting my hair.

Big decisions, huge. Not really. I'm one of those people who just walks into a salon and says "Ehhh about here", gesticulating roughly at somewhere between my chin and chest. I'm not fussy - hair grows, as Sabrina reminded Jenny (#1990s) but, this is the first time I actually want a particular hairstyle and it makes me a bit nervous.

It all started when I caught sight of my hair tucked up in my scarf and loved the length. I Instagrammed it, as you do.

Nail Polish Remover Pots: Bourjois vs. Essence

Duping products has definitely been done to death (and that includes on this blog!!) but after I picked this Essence Sponge Nail Polish Remover (€2.50) during the week, I kinda had to share my thoughts on why this is worth throwing into your Penneys basket.

Losing the Run of Myself

I have had zero interest in spending money on beauty in recent months. I think the last time I bought stuff was late July/early August and, since then, I have been on a mission to use things up. Then, SpaceNK had an offer last week for £10 off a £40 spend and I felt obliged to use it to pick up the Sarah Chapman Skinesis Overnight Facial and, honestly, that was the straw that broke the camel's back and what you see above is what happened in the space of, oh, three days!

MAC Eyeshadows Revisited

If you've been hanging around these parts since early on, you'll know that I have a rather large collection of MAC eyeshadows. Gone are the days where they were the only eyeshadows that I bought and it's been, oh, easily three years since I picked one up. However, I am going through a phase of wanting to use things up and am not allowing myself to buy new products until I finish an equivalent that is already in my collection so, I decided to dig into my MAC palettes and get some use out of them and have come up with eight shadows that I have fallen right back in love with and am using daily.

Meeting Oskia's Georgie Cleeve

If there is one really great opportunity that this blog gives it is that we get to learn about brands we love or are curious about straight from the source and earlier this week we had the chance to spend an evening with OSKIA Skincare founder Georgie Cleeve at SpaceNK Grafton Street.

Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Review

I just love a good cleanser. Before I got serious about skincare I could never get my head around the concept of investing in something that gets rinsed down the sink, but now, with my skincare hat firmly on, I am of the firm belief that a good quality, gentle cleanser can be a total dealbreaker for skin.

Pharmacy Bits & Bobs

I've been stocking up on assorted beauty bits lately and thought it was high time to go through some of my favourites, especially as these are largely affordable and extremely useful bits and bobs. Some are products I've mentioned before in passing, others are new to me but all are great quality and budget-friendly. On with the speed reviewing...

In&Out: Skincare

I totally ripped the idea for this post off the impeccable ttsandra on YouTube (if you aren't subscribed - go now!). I personally love empties videos as I appreciate getting an end of the line opinion on products but, I know some people feel a bit "why is she showing me her trash" about them so, I loved the idea of doing a round-up of what I have finished up and what's replacing it in my routine as it allows for information-rich yet, speedy reviews. So, here's my first In&Out post, all about skincare.

The Latest From Liz Earle

I don't make a habit of blogging regularly about launches or events that I attend because, nine times out of ten, I don't think it's of relevance to the reader how many canapés I guzzled or how many glasses of prosecco I quaffed. It's all more than a bit superficial and at the end of the day I just want to communicate simply with you guys about what products I like and what new releases are whetting my beauty appetite. Sometimes, though, it is nice to share a little more, and seeing as I had the pleasure of meeting skincare queen Liz Earle last Friday morning, I thought I may as well write about it.

Tapas and Theatre

I felt like writing today but, not about beauty so, I figured I would try my hand at something a bit more lifestyle-y. I hope you don't mind! This wasn't planned so, I don't have much in the way of pictures I'm afraid!

An Introduction to Ojon

As an avid reader of blogs, a shameless consumer of YouTube videos and basically any kind of beauty content online or in print, I'd always heard good things about Ojon, A premium haircare brand with a price tag to match, I'd always regarded it as one of those brands that just might somehow 'fix' my hair. My mane has always been a difficult beast to manage, you see - before the GHD came into my life I more often than not resembled a pre-makeover Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries.

So with an unruly, frizz-prone and rather dry head of hair, maintenance has always been a challenge. Throw into the mix a sensitive scalp and more experimentation with colour than I'd care to remember (although some of it has, unfortunately, been documented on this very blog), and it gets even more complicated. I have always been conscious of the health of my hair but now, as a semi-responsible adult person, I really want to look after it properly. For years, I'd wanted to give Ojon products a go but more often than not, they were outside my budget or I'd turned to my trusty friend Kérastase when I did have the cash. Having finally had the chance to trial two of Ojon's offerings, I was pretty eager to compile my thoughts and see if they're really worth it.

Eau de Gaga Review

I totally pre-judged this one and I am more than happy to hold up my hands and admit I was wrong. For you see, in 2012, I reviewed Lady Gaga's inaugural scent and was quite blunt, verging on scathing, in my commentary. I don't have a lot of time for celebrity perfumes and had hoped Fame would break the mould given the hoopla that surrounded it. Suffice to say it was a let down in pretty packaging.

Fast forward two years and I didn't even know the Lady had a second fragrance launching, such is my interest in her, until it arrived at my door. I threw it a cursory glance and put it in my "one day I will review this" pile. Then I read the press info and saw words I liked; "unisex", "leather", "masculine". I opened the box.

Repurchases

I bloody love trying new stuff. Stalking Temptalia for release dates, haunting the aisles of Boots and BTs... It's what made me want to start blogging, and four years later, the obsession rumbles on. Along the way, I've made some firm friends. Here are the four products that will always be with me...

A Red Lip That Lasts And Lasts

I'm like a broken record when it comes to red lips. I love them, I think that there is a red out there to suit everyone, and I think that every woman should be able to rock a red with confidence!

I know that the issue of lasting power is what holds a lot of people back from wearing reds or brights. I've been wearing this combination (or a variation thereof) for the last couple of months and I have to say - it does not budge.
