Skincare Favourites: Throwback Edition

I'm on a bit of a skincare high at the moment, and it's not all induced by shiny new releases. Although I do have a few new skincare favourites (such as the excellent spot treatment I blogged about yesterday), I've also worked a few long-running favourites into my current routine.  Let the throwback commence!

8 Favourites Under €80

Last month I did a post dedicated to my favourite budget buys. I picked 15 standout products under €15 and divulged why I loved them. A lot of you seemed to like that post and agreed I should do a luxury version so, here we are! I toyed with doing 15 under €50 or 10 under €100 but, all things considered, 8 products under €80 seemed more realistic given the higher price point.

A Perfect Nude Lip Pairing

One aspect of make-up that I never expected to be writing about with fervent passion on this blog was a nude lip. It's never really been my thing; of course I tried circa 2010 with GOSH Darling but it never suited me; tinted lip balms in hues of red and pink have, for the most part, been my version of a nude. My lips are quite pigmented and it just suited me to play up my natural lip colour by accentuating the red tones.

Travel Skincare Edit

Some of my favourite blog posts to read are those travel essentials ones where you really get to see what people rate and can't live without when they go away. I have done a make-up essentials one every summer for the past few years and they are so handy to look back on when I'm packing again, mainly to jog my memory of what I brought and what I didn't need. I'll be doing another of those next week but, I thought I would also add a little snapshot of what skincare I am bringing into the mix this year as I'm having a total love-in with lotions and potions at the moment!

Aesop Control Gel

Spot cream isn't the most exciting of topics, its it? This one has me a bit hot under the collar though - there's nothing better than when you find something that just works. I'd never had much luck in the past with targeted spot treatments - I found La Roche Posay's Effaclar A.I. to be just okay but it did nothing to shift the bigger, ahem, residents on my face.

Current Favourites

It's been ages since I checked in with a few favourites. I have to say, despite my recent disappointment with Fuschia cosmetics (thanks for the lovely feedback on that post, by the way), I've actually been inundated with awesome products lately. A combination of beauty shopping along with some fantastic new releases has led to me having a pretty brilliant edit of products on the go. I've a few skincare products to talk about, too, but for the sake of brevity I'll keep that for another upcoming post!

20lb Down and Some Things I've Learnt

Before I get into the bulk of this post, I just wanted to a huge, very heartfelt thank you for all your well wishes and support on my '15lb and Counting' post. I was abnormally nervous about posting about something as personal as my relationship with food and as divisive as health and diet but, you were all really lovely and seemed genuinely interested in my way of doing things so, thank you!

Fuschia Makeup

Fuschia has been a steady success in Dublin and beyond; the brand boasts two standalone stores in Swords and Drogheda, and a lot of beauty salons also carry their products.

People often ask me am I inundated with products as a blogger, and the answer is yes, but the volume of products I test has only made me that little bit fussier. I feel like I've a good idea of what good quality is across all price points and what's not - that kind of microscopic judgement was definitely at play when I was trying these products out. I buy and try so much that of course my standards are high because I'm constantly on the hunt for the best products out there - that's what this blog is all about!

Mascaras du Jour

Mascara is one of my desert island products and I frequently have more than one on-the-go at any one time. When I noticed I had four open and being used in rotation, I decided it was high-time for a mascara update so, here are some speed reviews of mascaras I have been loving lately! I've just realised that all of these mascaras are samples which, I usually try to avoid but, the truth is, mascaras are one of those things that brands churn out frequently so, I rarely buy my own as I am always testing new ones. As always though, my opinions are genuine!

Estée Lauder Modern Muse Chic

At the beginning of the year, I spoke about Estée Lauder Modern Muse; an interesting mix of musk and floral that quickly became my go-to perfume and has remained so eight months later. Estée Lauder know how much I love the scent and recently sent me the October-launching evolution of the original, Modern Muse Chic*.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum and Light Cream

You may remember, around this same time last year, I blogged about the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Night Spa; a cooling gel-like night treatment. I loved that stuff and went through it quickly (too quickly - it turned out one of my sisters had also taken a liking to it!). Now, one year on, Vichy have expanded the hyper-hydrating Aqualia Thermal range to include two moisturisers; Aqualia Thermal Light* and Aqualia Thermal Rich, as well as Aqualia Thermal Serum.

KIKO Shopping

KIKO is a brand that Sinéad's had a lot of success with over the last couple of years; she's also brought me back some serious gems (the brand currently only has stores in mainland Europe and London) so we're both pretty smitten with a lot of products that they do. The prices are fantastic so, if you're away this summer it's definitely a store to keep an eye out for.

Beauty Shopping

I mentioned in last week's skincare shopping post that I had a hefty beauty version coming your way so, here it is. This is the largest accumulation of stuff I have blogged in quite some time but, I assure you, I didn't buy it all at once! Some of it is gifts and some the result of a few separate online orders (and one SpaceNK visit!). I've been using most of this stuff daily since I got it so, I have a few thoughts to share!

10 Beauty Rituals We All Need

It's going to be hard to write this post without lecturing you all and coming off as a terrible beauty snob. I suppose I should preface this list by stating that while I am a make-up and skincare obsessive, I'm certainly no model or 'guru' (hands up who hates that word?), and am as dishevelled as the next person, especially midweek when I'm exhausted with a greasy face on the bus home from work.

So on that note, we're all guilty of neglecting ourselves a bit, right? Everyone could probably do with being a little bit kinder to themselves, and that's where these rituals and tips come in - they're kind of a checklist of what I consider to be the most important things in my make-up and skincare routine. If I've got 50% of them down 50% of the time, I'm doing well but, sssh!
