Beauty Shopping

It's been awhile since I have done any kind of beauty shopping and then, all in one week, I make a few different purchases! They are good ones though, some quite practical, and I'm very impressed so far with what I picked up. Firstly, there was a trip to the new Space NK...

What's Worth The Hype?

In what has gone beyond a an explosion of beauty blogging, we tend to see a lot of the same thing over and over again. In some cases, the product.  In others, it's just been a heavy PR drop; you'll hear a lot about the same product over the same month, then it's off the radar.

I've gathered together a bunch of products that you're most likely already familiar with to consider: are they all really worth the hype?!!

Speed Reviewing

Today I'm taking inspiration from one of our favourite blog pals Simone and speed-reviewing a few products I've acquired over the last while! This kind of post is a great way for me to plough through my thoughts on a few different items, and hopefully you guys will find it somewhat helpful if you've been wondering about any of the products. On with the reviewing!

Easy Glowy Make-Up

The weather has been downright bloody gorgeous here in Dublin the last few weeks. It's amazing what waking up to a sun drenched world can do for the mood and I wish it would stick around for longer than the forecasters envisage!

While it's still clear, sunny and in the 20s, I thought I would take this opportunity to update you on my go-to sunny day make-up. This easy, effortless, bronzed and glowy look perfectly complements the laid back, carefree atmosphere that seems to envelope Ireland when the sun shines and I have worn it everyday for the past fortnight!

The Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream Review

BB creams and I don't really have a great history. Being a person with oily, blemished and scarred skin, it's not been easy to find a lightweight BB that still delivers decent coverage and doesn't slide off after two hours. The Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream (€13.50)* has been one of very, very few BBs that I can actually get along with.

My MAC Palette - 2014

L-R: Sketch, Sable, Patina, Amber Lights, Expensive Pink, Twinks, Soft Brown, Woodwinked, Antiqued, Coppering, Satin Taupe, Wedge, Gleam, All That Glitters, Cranberry.

Since I've kind of re-jigged and completed it, I thought it was high time for me to give you all a little tour of my MAC eyeshadow palette. This is one of my go-to items - at the moment my most-reached for are this and the NARS Narsissist palette.

My New Favourite Highlighter

Dior do the best highlighting powders - hands-down, no competition. Laura Mercier also know how to manufacture a good powder and their limited edition highlighter from last year, Spellbound, had me suitably entranced. However, I'm handing this title to Dior because between Amber Diamond (now discontinued) and this new powder, they've got highlighting down.

Rapid White Express Tooth Whitening

I feel teeth whitening is something we don't take seriously this side of pond. In America, everyone has amazingly white teeth and the range of products available to achieve and maintain that brilliant smile is vast. Here, not so much so, when I see a new whitening product, you know I'mma be all over that! Today, I'm talking about Rapid White Express Tooth Whitening.

MAC x Kelly Osbourne

It's been quite a while since I actually cared about a MAC collection, but as soon as I heard about their collaboration with Kelly and Sharon Osbourne, I was pretty much sold - and that's before I had even stalked out product pictures.

No7 Gel-Look Shine Nail Colours

I've just come off the back of not painting my nails for 7 or 8 weeks. No reason why, I just wasn't arsed! However, the better weather and the healthy (faux) glow I am sporting made me want to break out the bright colours and, with the help of these new No7 Gel-Look Shine Nail Colours* (€9.00), I am firmly back on the nail painting bandwagon again!

A NARS Heat Wave Dupe?

I've said before that 'duping' products always brings me back to the earlier days of beauty blogging - it was a serious obsession for many! Now, we've a wider wealth of affordable and high-end makeup to choose from - and in my experience that means that 'duping' is actually a far more common occurrence than it once was.

2B Organic: Skincare with a Story

Sometimes you find a real gem of  beauty product when you least expect it. This particular star comes with a bit of a story but, I'll keep it brief.

You all know by now how much I love the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, right? Well, after managing to ration my tub since December, it finally ran out at the end of May and I knew I had a few other cleansers that needed to be used up before I repurchased it. I dug into my skincare drawer and came out with this little unassuming tub from a homegrown brand called 2B Organic.

L'Oreal L'Extrordinaire Liquid Lipstick

When these came out a couple of months back, I was disinterested to say the least. I just thought they looked a little flimsy and maybe not lasting enough for me. However, the positive reviews kept coming, and it was actually Mags of Emeraldeyeliner who pushed me over the edge after her mini-rave on Instagram.

It's really hard to accurately describe what kind of product this is. In short, it's a glossy, pigmented liquid lipstick with an extremely comfortable, non-tacky texture. It feels really nice on the lips thanks to the blend of pigment and oils that makes up this unique formula, which has been touted by L'Oréal as a hybrid between a lipstick, a gloss and a balm. It definitely feels a little hydrating to me but I don't think it would be very flattering if your lips are very dry.

Some Skincare Favourites

I'm so obsessed with skincare, it's a bit much at times and I do realise that most people can't afford / aren't bothered to implement the kind of quasi-fascist routines that are often showcased on beauty blogs (this one included)! Nevertheless, good skincare is a great investment whenever you can afford or remember it. Think of this as an 'if you only buy one thing this month...' kind of blog post. All of these products are, in my opinion, more than worth the investment, and implementing the use of even one with some regularity will probably pay dividends in your routine!

This Week...#13

Wow...thirteen weeks in to this little lifestyle series. Unlucky for some but, after the last few weeks, #13 has proved a good one! As I mentioned last week, my dad has been in hospital so I have been quite consumed by that. However, almost two weeks after he first went in, he is home and doing great! Hopefully I will get my blogging mojo back but, for the moment, I feel better just blogging when I am inspired or particularly passionate about something and I hope that's okay with you lot!

Dumplings... To celebrate my dad getting out of hospital, we took a trip to our favourite Chinese. Located off O'Connell Street in Dublin, M&L is probably the most authentic Chinese in the city and that's proven by how many native Chinese people eat there. I go at least once a month and the best dishes are those that are not on the menu. The Double Cooked Pork Belly and Harbour Prawns are particular favourites but, we revisited their dumplings this weekend and holy shit are they amazing. 10/10...highly recommend!

Making Progress... I mentioned in a This Week post a while ago that I had been working hard to get my body in check for summer. This week, I hit some milestones as I am down 5kg/11lb, have lost over 8 inches overall and, based on my own measurements, am down 2-3 bra sizes! I'm delighted and so motivated to keep going. #highfatFTW

Sunglasses... Since getting my eyes lasered, I have become obsessed with sunglasses. I always had a lot of pairs but, could only ever wear them on days where I pre-empted the sun and wore contacts. Now I wear them almost every single day and, this week, Kev and I took advantage of Brown Thomas' Buy One Get One 50% Off deal and each got a new pair of sunnies. I have had my eye on these black-on-black Ray Ban Aviators for the longest time and I adore them.

NYX In Ireland & Irish Stockists

NYX is one of America's most popular brands, and I was really happy to find out that they've arrived here. Seeing as they've got great PR here, I'm fairly sure you all know about it by now too!

A hefty amount of NYX has landed with Irish bloggers over the past week. Now, I'm not going to insult your intelligence and pretend that I had time to test and do a proper review of every single item I received over the weekend, because I didn't and I don't think that would be possible! Instead, I'm just going to take you through a quick face of the day with some of the products that I immediately gravitated towards, and I'm sure that both myself and Sinéad will review more products over the coming weeks and months. I have to say, I knew that NYX did some great products, but I am far more impressed than I thought I'd be with the quality across the range as a whole. It's definitely worth hunting down!

Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Sticks

I've been a bit absent from the blog this past week. My dad is in hospital and I just haven't had the time in the day to take pictures and/or write posts. However, it's Sunday morning now and I have a spare few minutes so I wanted to update you on a launch that I think is very cool and, even better, is from the drugstore! I'm talking about the Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Sticks* (€10.99) - pretty pastel pencils that are targeted at correcting and neutralising imperfections and inconsistencies in skintone.

Soap & Glory Orangeasm

I don't love every scent that Soap & Glory make, but when I do, I really do. Case in point: Sugar Crush. Last year, I was all over that stuff; the scrub, shower gel and body butter all made regular appearances in my routine. Needless to say, I'm a bit of a sucker for citrus scents, so S&G's newest offering, Orangeasm, is right up my street.

This Week... #12

Happy bank holiday weekend! The weather's really taken off this week here in Dublin and it couldn't have come at a better time. If you're at Forbidden Fruit this weekend, I am very jealous - I'm pretty sad to have missed the Saturday lineup in particular, but I can't complain too much as I've plenty of other gigs to go to later in the summer. This weekend will be spent mostly sleeping, eating and drinking - wahey! It's my dad's 60th birthday this weekend - he's quite a cool guy, if I'm allowed to say so (he's basically me with a beard). To celebrate, we had a lovely BBQ in the sun yesterday and are off to one of his favourite restaurants tonight, Kinara in Clontarf.

I hope you all have similarly lovely plans - here's a little bit of what I've been loving this week...
