Facial SPF: A Guide

Sun protection is incredibly important year-round, but if you're not already wearing an SPF daily, now is a great time to start; get into the habit over the summer and you'll keep it up for the rest of the year without a bother.

Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Golden Light: Review

Bronzer is a bit of a tricky one to get right when you're as pale as myself and Sinéad are. I am, as a general rule, extremely fussy about what bronzers I use and have only found a handful that I like and that suit my skintone. I've almost used up my old favourite (Clarins Bronzing Duo) as well as my contour blush of choice (MAC Baby Don't Go), so felt like it was time to try something new. I should probably also mention that I bought this in a frenzy of self-pity after a terrible job interview a few weeks back - I presume I'm not the only emotional shopper out there?!

I'd heard a lot of great things about Bobbi Brown bronzing powders from both my own friends and from people on YouTube, so settled on their bronzer in Golden Light. This is a fantastic bronzer for any of you paler people; at €34.50 from Brown Thomas, it isn't a budget item, but I think the price is fair considering the sheer quality and amount of product you're getting.

Laser Eye Surgery: My Experience

On Saturday 17th May 2014, I got laser eye surgery. This was something I wanted to do for as long as I can remember but, wanted to wait until my prescription had settled before taking the leap. At the time of surgery, my prescription was -2.75 in my right eye and -2.25 in my left.

After posting about it on Twitter, a lot of people asked for a post on my experiences so, I began jotting notes down to form a kind of diary in the hopes that it will give you an idea of what you can expect, at least by my standards. I'll include as much as I can remember about the surgery, where I got it done, how much it cost etc so, hopefully this helps some of you make, what seems to be, the most life changing decision I've ever made. Apologies in advance for the length of this post!

This Week...#11

This was possibly the longest week in the history of life. I have no reason why but, Friday evening felt eons away and I was exhausted for most of it! That being said; here's what made my week this week!

The Killing...in Danish. I started watching the original Danish version of The Killing at the behest of my boss and I love it. There is something really gritty and raw about it and the story is good if not a little dragged out. The only downside is that I forget I don't actually speak Danish and constantly look away from the screen, only to look back and realise I've missed all the subtitles and have no idea what's going on! It's on Netflix if you're interested.

Date Night...is the best night. Kev and I have been together for almost 10 years now and we still love to go out and do stuff together. Sadly, we don't always have time because we both work so much and often on conflicting schedules but, this week we found an evening to go for dinner (M&L - ask for the Double Cooked Pork Belly and Harbour Prawns; neither are on the menu) and a movie (Godzilla 3D - more lizards, less lovey dovey plz) and it was just so lovely. It's the little things.

Iggy Azalea...who I don't really like but, can't stop playing her new album in the gym. A mix of rap, hip hop, tri-tonal catchy choruses and some house influence, it's perfect ear candy to make you forget that those 75kg (new PB - yay!) are actually really bloody heavy. Here's Fancy to brighten up your Sunday morning. PS - Hands up who would like to see Claire Marshall do a video to this?!

The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist Review

I've had a bit of a backwards relationship with facial mists. I've gone from hating the very idea of one to being kind of lost without using one as part of my morning routine - here's why.

As an oily-skinned girl, up to about a year ago I couldn't fathom the idea of using something post-powdering to actually bring a bit of glow back to my face. Surely I'd be over-producing that naturally as the day progressed?!

Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial Wash

I know that this looks like the world's most boring product but, bear with me because this wash has been a gamechanger for my skin, and something I won't be straying from for the forseeable future! I think that a lot of people could really love this as it's a great way of incorporating chemical exfoliants into your routine without straying from more 'traditional' cleansing methods. If you've been following my skincare posts over the past year or so, you'll know that I've really reaped the benefits of cutting down on manual or physical exfoliators and switching over to exfoliating products that work without granules, instead using (mild) acids to sweep away dead skin and reveal a fresher, more enlivened complexion. This breed of product is also fantastic for keeping skin clear as well as reducing the appearance of pores and fine lines.

L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Elixir

It's coming up to that time of year again, when all of us pale girls have to start thinking about the best course of action for showing some skin without looking like the winter sapped all signs of life from us. For some, that will merely entail a bi-weekly body polish, a strict moisturising routine and the mantra "embrace the pale" while, for others, it will include all of the above plus a quest to find the year's best faux glow. Now, I'm not sure if this new offering from L'Oreal falls into that category but, I thought the concept was new and interesting so, I wanted to share it with you.

Current Favourites

I haven't done a current favourites post in forever - I've a rake of stuff that I've been loving so, it was actually quite hard to condense products for this post! Almost everything here is stuff I haven't mentioned before so, let's get crackin'.

Louise Young LY34 Super Foundation Brush

By now, you probably all know how I value make-up brushes above all other facets of my collection. Whether I am using budget eyeshadow or high end, the right brushes ensure that I get the best from both. I have built up a pretty extensive collection over the years; mainly MAC and Real Techniques with some Kiko and Sigma thrown in, and have been fiercely loyal to those brands. However, this newest addition, the Louise Young LY34 Super Foundation Brush has totally shaken things up.

This Week... #10

I've started a new job this week and so far, so good! I'm really happy with how the first week went and I'm settling into a new routine nicely. This week was all about getting organised, relaxing and catching up with some of my favourite people!

Maybelline FIT Me Concealer Review

In a couple of recent posts, I'd made a bit of a shocking confession - as much as I love the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, I would pretty much equate it to the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer, and on many occasions, especially when I am spotty or red, I definitely prefer the Collection concealer, because I actually find it to be a little creamier and less drying and the shade is spot-on for me.

SEVENTEEN Stay Time Pressed Powder

I'm very loyal to certain products in my make-up collection and it takes a lot for me to even take a second glance at a similar product let alone test drive one. Take for instance the NARS Translucent Crystal Light Reflecting Pressed Powder. Since this came into my life, I haven't strayed. So much so that there is a big gaping hole in the middle and it's starting to cry out to be replaced. However, I was intrigued by this powder, the SEVENTEEN Stay Time Pressed Powder* (€5.69) as, for one, it was in the right shade which is a rarity with budget brands and, for two, I had never tried anything from the brand before so my curiosity was piqued.

Three Texturising Sprays

To begin with, I was totally disinterested in this whole texturised-hair trend. I had quite long, wiry hair for the longest time and the last thing I really needed was to add more texture to it - I was more interested in keeping it tamed! A couple of haircuts later, my hair is far shorter and although it does have a natural texture to it I have really come to rely on a spray of some sort to inject a little volume and messiness back in post-styling.

Sally Hansen Nail Rehab and Cuticle Rehab

If you saw this post, you'll know that my nails are, as we say in Ireland, in bits! They are brittle and flaky and my cuticles are ragged. So, with summer approaching, I decided it was high time that I sent my fingertips to rehab for a little TLC and decided to start using both the new Sally Hansen Nail Rehab and Cuticle Rehab* together.

The Cure for KP?

If you read the title of this post and thought it was to do with peanuts, Hula Hoops or some other delicious snack food from the people at KP then you're lucky because that probably means you don't have to deal with it on a daily basis. KP, for those who don't have it and are curious or those who do have it but, never knew what it was called, is short for keratosis pilaris. Keratosis Pilaris is a common skin condition whereby the skin overproduces the protein keratin and the excess gets trapped in the hair follicles, giving the appearance of rough, raised bumps or, as many of us refer to it, "chicken skin".

Currently Loving

It's been awhile since I've done a make-up update that doesn't feature some combination of NARS Translucent Crystal Powder, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush or a NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. After going out on Friday night and realising I didn't really use any of the above (wait - I lie, NARS Cruella made an appearance), I thought it was high time I talked you through some of my new loves.

Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay Review

The struggle is real for me when it comes to producing scent reviews that are even half-readable, but I couldn't overlook this beauty and not give it a proper feature. I'm sure many of you will have smelled or owned this, but I'm quite new to Jo Malone and, let me tell you, I've fallen hard for Blackberry and Bay since purchasing it back in March.

This Week... #8

This week marks the beginning of a little more freedom for me! Everything is looking up, the weather is continuing to improve, and I'm just generally in far better humour. Here's a few highlights of the past week or so...

Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet Review

This is shaping up to be something of a base-centric week here on the blog! In keeping with the (unintentional) theme, say hello to my favourite foundation. When talking to Sinéad and Sarah about this over the weekend, I couldn't fault it - that about sums this review up.

I was never hugely intrigued by Chanel foundations - I used Mat Lumière before starting this blog and, while I liked it, I never repurchased it. As soon as I heard about this one via Mary Greenwell's Twitter, though, I was chomping at the bit to get my hands on a bottle. A version of Vitalumière Aqua for oily skin? Sold.
