Essie Winter 2014/2015

I wasn't going to write about this Essie* collection because a) I don't have my own swatches to show you [awesome ones here] and b) I didn't think it was very season appropriate and so assumed interest levels would be low. However, it is an undeniably beautiful array of shades and, after posting them on Facebook and Instagram to many (albeit confused) oohs and ahhs, I decided they were worth a brief word.

Tuck it in my Tux // Back in the Limo // Bump Up the Pumps // Double Breasted Jacket // Jump in my Jumpsuit // Jiggle Hi, Jiggle Low

Elephant in the room first: nothing about this collection is particularly wintery. It's all very bright and juicy and pastel. Even the metallic Jiggle Hi Jiggle Low has a discernable pink undertone that just feels wrong at this time of year.

Don't get me wrong, this collection as a whole is right up my street,  especially the peachy nude Back in the Limo and the watermelon Double Breasted Jacket. And, of course, the formula is the great creamy, opaque one we have come to love from Essie.

However, this is not what I gravitate towards when I'm in a cosy frame-of-mind and I think (though correct me if I'm wrong) most of you are the same. Where are the golds and greens, the rich reds and burnished oranges? A blue-based guava will not marry well with my scarlet party dress.

I think Essie were trying to stand out and not fall into the "same old, same old" of collections past so, I applaud them for thinking outside the box and trying to catch our eyes on the overstocked pharmacy shelves. However, for me, this falls well short of the mark and just doesn't appeal. Reissue though, around March, when spring is in the air and it'll be a sure fire hit.

Available January 2015 with a RRP of €9.99 or you can get them here, now, with international shipping!

  1. I was disappointed with the majority of Holiday collections this year. This isn't remotely Christmassy or Wintery! Last years' were so glittery and fun, I wish they'd done something more interesting or at least included a purple or green. In saying that, I did buy the gold a while back and it is a lovely polish.
