90's Face

2014 has been the year in which I finally, finally got to grips with the nude lip. I'd shunned it for ages in favour of brights because my lips are quite pigmented naturally. However, the Kylie Jenner lip craze was a bandwagon that I was very happy to hop on, and as a result I was introduced to the nude lipliner. I've since amassed quite the collection of nude pencils and lipsticks, and have found quite a few that I absolutely love and feel very comfortable wearing - they're mostly quite deep, mauve-y shades, and I'll hopefully have a post up on them quite soon.

I finally had a bit of time on my hands to play with makeup this week and decided to pair my current favourite lip combo with some matte shadows for quite a 90's-inspired look - read on to see what I used!

For my base, my skin has actually been a bit dry lately (mostly due to all of that sitting on my arse by the fire over Christmas!), so I used Dior Star Foundation. This stuff is incredible, especially on winter skin - read my full review here. For concealer, I went a bit mad and used two on my cheeks and blemishes - NYX HD and Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer. For undereyes, Clarins Instant Concealer is still my absolute holy grail. I powdered my skin using Chanel Les Beiges - like Sinéad, I absolutely love this but I'm trying to use it up because my compact broke - sob. The lid came off while the powder was in my bag, and I was quite annoyed seeing as it's so expensive. I do love this powder a lot though, and would most likely buy it again at some stage!

On to cheeks. I contoured with NYX Powder blush in Taupe and added some colour with Chanel Jersey blush. NYX Taupe is definitely the best budget contour I've used, and Jersey is my current favourite blush - neutral with a hint of pink, it's perfection and matches well with any lip or eye look. Because I didn't want too much shimmer on my face, I used all three shades of powder in my Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette to highlight in a slightly more subtle manner.

On the eyes, I started with LORAC Behind the Scenes eye primer and then decided to combine some of my old favourite matte Inglot shadows (see my top 5 here) with a new love of mine, MAC Pro Longwear eyeshadow Uninterrupted. Uninterrupted has quickly become something of a cult colour - I think that if you have blue eyes in particular, you absolutely should try it. For this look, I started with a cream Inglot shade, Matte 330, and then packed Uninterrupted on to the outer corners and blended it into the crease and lower lash line. I then used Inglot Matte 360 to tie everything together and add an extra bit of depth.

I had originally wanted this to be a fully matte look, but ended up highlighting the inner corners at the end just to lift everything a bit - for this I used Inglot Pearl 393. I'd usually team this with a sharp liquid liner, but decided to soften it a little with a grungy, smoked-out black pencil on the upper lash line. I used the Bourjois Contour Clubbing eyeliner* in black - it's a pretty decent dupe for the Urban Decay liners although it did transfer a bit to my upper lid after a while. I often have that problem, though. it's more to do with the actual shape of my eyes.

Mascara was taken care of with Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant mascara*, which I really do like - it's very black and gives a really dramatic, fanned-out effect. And for brows, no surprises here - I used Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow because it is amazing and nothing else is quite like it. Review here!

I lined my lips using NYX Mauve - one of the best and most versatile neutral liners - and then went over that with MAC Velvet Teddy. It took me forever to track this down as it's such a known 'Kylie' shade that it keeps selling out - totally worth the hunt, though! To neaten everything up I went around the lips with Rimmel Scandaleyes nude pencil liner - this is flesh-toned and happens to blend seamlessly with my skin, so if you're a similar shade of pale to me, definitely try this trick!

I hope you don't mind too much that I don't have proper product pictures this time - they are all still linked below. I'm in the middle of a post-Christmas clearout and my makeup table is currently in a bit of a state...
