Kiehls Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50

I bought this as part of a mega "haul" a few weeks ago which, if you missed, you can catch here. It was a purchase that I was basically strong armed into by Dee and Sarah and I am so glad they were as insistent about it as they were because this, the Kiehls Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50, is some good shit.

I'm fanatical about facial SPF. In my case, it's because I use an abundance of acids on my skin that reduce the skin's natural barrier to UV rays but, honestly, everyone should be using a good strong SPF on a daily basis, if for no other reason than to prevent premature aging. Dee did a great post about why SPF is important and also some of her favourite facial SPFs (this one features!) so, I highly recommend checking that out here.

In the past I have used both the La Roche-Posay Hydraphase UV Intense Legere as well as the Vichy Capital Soleil Mattifying Face Fluid Dry Touch SPF50 (brilliant for sun holidays!) and have repurchased and would recommend both (probably the LRP over the Vichy). What sets the Kiehls apart from both of those is how beautifully it applies, dries and sits under make-up.

It is an oil-free, super light facial moisturiser that almost gives skin a semi-matte finish when dry, making an ideal base for make-up. There is no issue with the SPF separating or balling under whatever you apply on top of it - though I will say make sure it is dry before buffing foundation, just to completely avoid that. Obviously, this is an incredibly broad spectrum SPF with a sun protection factor of 50 and a PA+++ rating so, that's ultimately what sold it to me but, what I really love is the formula. In comparison to the other two, it is very, very weightless and much more runny so, a little goes a long way - I bring a peasize down my neck and onto my chest - don't forget about these areas people!

At €37.50 for 60ml, this isn't cheap but, that amount should last you a long time and I can't see myself straying from this. If that is, understandably, out of your price range, check out the La Roche-Posay which is easily found and most akin to the Kiehls.

  1. I will try this one, my current favourite is Eucerin mattifying sun fluid.

  2. Haha every morning when i apply my spf (zelens, spf 30 and really good!) I always remember that you are a strong advocate and 'harp on' (in a very nice way) about spf's when you use acids. I have started using the Clarins toner (cannot remember the name) and the Zelens acid pads so spf now features every day in my routine :-) Before I used acids it was just when it was sunny/i was on holiday.

  3. Definitely a perfect stocking stuffer!

  4. Haha that made me laugh Catherine! I've no problem being known for harping on about something like SPF ;) Those Zelens pads are on my list!

  5. Ooh haven't heard of that one!
