Current Skincare Routine (AM)

Within a few days of returning from holiday, my skin took a nosedive and was the worst I had seen it in a very long time. The joys of air travel. The texture was uneven, it was incredibly dull looking and it seemed as though every pore on my face was clogged and gave the impression and feel of sandpaper. I tackled the pores first and managed to improve them a lot over the first two days (I'll have a post up on what I used for quick results in a few weeks) but, then, I needed to address the lifelessness. I totally reconfigured my skincare routine and developed one for AM, which this post is about, and one for PM and, almost overnight, I noticed a huge improvement in texture, luminosity and plumpness.

I begin in the morning by cleansing. Firstly with a micellar water to remove residue from the previous night's products and then with a gentle balm or cream-based cleanser (not pictured) and a face cloth. A quick spritz of La Roche-Posay Serozinc to soothe and prevent breakouts and then it's on to toning.

I'm a huge fan of acid based toners/exfoliators as I feel that they yield better results and do more for my skin than their more traditional counterparts. After an acid-heavy routine the night before, I like to keep things gentle in the AM and use something like Pixi Glow Tonic all over my face, neck and décolletage.

I usually do my brows while allowing those products to soak in before moving on to the most crucial, unskippable, no-excuses-just-do-it step; SPF. Regardless of whether you are using acid on your skin, SPF is paramount all year round to protect skin from long term damage and premature ageing. I'm still working through my tube of Vichy Capital Soleil Mattifying Face Fluid Dry Touch SPF50 and I highly recommend it. It doesn't interfere with my make-up, dries instantly and the matte finish gives you a lovely base to work on.

The serum I am currently using, both night and day, is Shiseido Ultimune*. This is a power infusing concentrate that effectively ups your skin's natural protection levels. This isn't cheap, starting at €80 a bottle, but my God is it amazing. It's the most hydrating, nourishing and soothing serum I have ever tried and I feel sorry for any serum that comes after this as I don't think anything will ever mimic the properties of this! I don't quite bring this up to my eyes, preferring instead to use the Indeed Labs Eysilix eye cream as it depuffs and brightens the eye area - perfect for mornings!

Finally, in the spirit of trying to use things up, I'm using Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Jelly as my moisturiser. I did a whole brand focus on Indeed Labs here and this is one of my favourite products as it is super hydrating an creates a lovely base for make-up.

And that's it! Granted, "it" probably seems like a lot but, as I mentioned in a post last week, I now have a tonne of time in the mornings and I enjoy the mini pamper routine I have created and also use the time to catch up on YouTube videos! I would love to know what serums you recommend as my Shiseido is running dangerously low!
