I've said before that 'duping' products always brings me back to the earlier days of beauty blogging - it was a serious obsession for many! Now, we've a wider wealth of affordable and high-end makeup to choose from - and in my experience that means that 'duping' is actually a far more common occurrence than it once was.
Last week, myself and a friend headed up to the NYX stand in Santry - I'd been raving about the products to her so she was curious, and of course I ended up picking up a few more things.
One of my very favourite items I've tried so far from NYX has to be their lipsticks - the one pictured here is in the shade Indie Flick. In terms of the best 'drugstore' lipstick, Rimmel has serious competition with this range. When I was buying this, the lovely cashier (also a make-up fiend) pointed out to me that this is a fair close dupe for MAC Lady Danger. Of course I went home and compared the two, and while they are close, I feel that Indie Flick is actually a closer shade to my current favourite lipstick, NARS Heat Wave.
Swatched: NARS Heat Wave, NYX Indie Flick
Now, they are not an exact match - Indie Flick leans a little more orange, whilst Heat Wave is more of a definite red with warm orange undertones. I think that Indie Flick could look closer to an orange lipstick on a lot of people.
In terms of texture, NARS is certainly superior - their semi-matte formula is incredible because it never looks too flat or dry on the lips, but still lasts for ages. The NYX packs more of a punch pigment-wise upon first swipe, but it is a little more prone to moving around and smudging if you don't team it with a good lipliner.
However, it's totally workable and not really a problem. If you're new to warm reds and want to try something good without investing big bucks, this is a total winner at about €6. Orangey-reds were my summer shade last year and I don't think that's going to change this year, either. Let me know if you'd like a post on how to wear orangey lip shades, as I know that they can be off-putting to many of you who are paranoid about them making your teeth look yellow!
