I've constantly been in a rush for the last month, and when I have to rush my makeup, what I consider to be most important becomes really apparent - a great base. Now, again, because I have no time at the moment, I've no pictures of the actual cosmetics I used for this look, but they are all listed below so hopefully you won't mind.
Continuing the make-up ramble... a great base for me these days seems to rely very heavily upon Laura Mercier products. This won't be the first time you've heard this from us but, the mineral powder and Silk Creme foundation are truly a match made in heaven, and cover everything without leaving the skin flat and overly matte.
On to concealer... I've kind of said this already but I'll say it again; I think I prefer the Collection concealer to NARS Radiant creamy concealer. It just seems to work better for me - I kind of find the NARS a touch drying, which is odd as my skin isn't super-dry normally. For undereyes, I honestly think the Clarins Instant Concealer is my holy grail - if it disappeared tomorrow, I'd run out straight away and buy it again. It's brightening, creamy, skin-like, and doesn't crease.
If I'm rushing but still want to look put together, nine times out of ten I will go minimal on the eyes, wear loads of mascara and then go all-out with a bright, bold lip. That's basically what I've done here, except with a little more TLC: I brightened and defined my eyes with two of my favourite MAC eyeshadows (Naked Lunch, with Wedge in the crease), and defined my waterline a bit more with a bronze pencil in order to really bring out the blue in my eyes. I'm so obsessed with bronzes, warm browns and ambers at the moment, and my MAC palette is especially full of them! I should probably do an updated MAC palette post, actually - let me know if you're interested.
Finally, on to lips. The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets deserve every bit of praise that they're getting at the moment. The shades are outstanding and they are the most comfortable and longest-wearing matte liquid lipstick that I've tried to date - they especially put the Hourglass Opaque Rouges to shame. I was showing this to a friend the other day and the scent took her back about six years as it's identical to the smell of an old lip stain that Bourjois used to make - funny how make-up and scent can do that! I digress - basically, they do smell a bit weird, but they're absolutely fantastic and swatching doesn't do them justice. I find the best way to apply is to lash on quite a thick coat, and then go back in with another thin one if needs me. They really come into their own about ten minutes after application when the formula's had time to fully mattify, so if you're not impressed straight away, just hang on for a few minutes!
