One of Max Factor's most famed products is the bestselling All Day Flawless 3-in-1 Foundation. This longwearing foundation sold one bottle every two minutes when it was launched and now Max Factor have gone one further and are selling the secret as to why the foundation lasts so long as an individual primer.
All Day Primer* (€13.99) is a skin preparation that gives skin a matte base with an all-day hold. Max Factor say the secret to this ultra longwearing primer (and the foundation it's derived from) are a little something called micro correctors which absorb sweat and sebum, prolonging the weartime of whatever base you choose to put on top of the primer.
Now, you know me. I take the science-y claims with a grain of salt. The real proof, as far as I am concerned, is in how the product performs in real life. Firstly, the primer does a good job of mattifying the skin. Indeed, so much so that, even when I get a bit hot and bothered throughout the day (on a stuffy train for instance) any prickling of perspiration quickly disappears and my make-up looks largely untouched. Secondly, and probably the main reason I like it, is the canvas it creates for make-up to sit on top of. My skin felt and, importantly, looked very smooth and even my most fussy of foundations applied evenly and with ease.
While I'm not 100% certain, this primer does feel like it has a lot of silicones - not a bad thing in my book. However, I know that can be a bone of contention for some of you so, just to give you a heads up. My skin is normal but, obviously prone to a bit of sweat/oil production in the aforementioned type of situation and the primer performs admirably. That being said, I think if you suffer at all with excess oil production, you'll need something a little more heavy duty.
