I've been having a bit of a love-in with high end foundations recently. It's not so much that I'm actively being a snob but, I get a lot more from buying expensive foundations than I do from buying budget. What I mean by that is, yes, they are more expensive but, I am guaranteed a better shade selection to choose from resulting in a near perfect match which, as you other pale ladies will relate too, is nigh on impossible to achieve from the drugstore alternatives.
However, I am about to eat my proverbial hat because, one of my current favourite foundations is about as drugstore as they come. No7, the Boots house brand, have recently launched Stay Perfect Superlight Foundation* (€18.50), a lightweight, ultra resistant foundation that gives skin a natural looking 'skin finish'.
To me, this is the budget version of the ever-popular Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. It is a water-based, very viscous foundation that is best applied with hands and then finished with a brush. A little goes a long way so, there is no risk of looking make-up looking caked on and, thanks to a moisturising complex within the formula, it hydrates skin throughout the day and doesn't highlight or cling to areas of dryness.
I find the coverage of this foundation to be light-medium with a limited scope to build it up. In other words, if you are looking to cover severe scarring or angry blemishes, this alone won't work for you. However, if you are looking for a foundation for those all-important 'good skin days' that is light, natural and stays dewy throughout the day, this is the one for you.
I think what sealed the deal for me with regards to this foundation is the fact that it's available as part of No7's Match Made service. If you are unfamiliar with this, they basically use a special device to read the colour values of your skin and fit you to foundation shade. My No7 shade is Calico and for the first time ever, a budget foundation matches my skintone really well. If you want to see this foundation in action, I am wearing it in this video.
10/10 for No7 on this release. It has found a firm place within my foundation rotation and holds its own against foundations that are twice the price. It may even have clinched the top spot in an upcoming favourite video...ooh!
