I'm a self-professed matte addict. Hand me a matte lipstick or eyeshadow and I will be as happy as if you had offered me the chance to meet Beyoncé - well, almost! However, I'm also a sucker for a bit of glow on the skin and love that luminous finish so much that I have rounded up my favourite "glow getters" to share with you today!
Surprisingly, most of these products are powders. I remember, maybe five or six years ago, when cream products use to be your only option for achieving gorgeously glowing skin. However, it just goes to show how the beauty market has come on in leaps and bounds since then that only one of my favourite glowy products is a liquid.
Let's start with the liquid since it is the only one. This is the No7 Instant Illusions Rapid Radiance Balm* (€22.00). It is basically a creamy liquid that contains light-reflective technology to illuminate the skin. It contains silicone so, is a perfect make-up base but, it also mixes in beautifully with foundation to give a lighter, tinted effect. If you have MAC Strobe Cream, this isn't a million miles away from that.
Powder highlighters are probably your best best when it comes to easily creating a fresh, dewy look on the skin. Almost always, these will be finely milled, baked products that have multiple shades in them which gives a gorgeous multi-dimensional look to the skin. Pictured above are MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Perfect Topping* and Laura Mercier Spellbound Illuminator.
It's no coincidence that all of these products fall within the "champagne gold" family of highlighters. As a ghostly pale person with a pink undertone, these kinds of shades provide the most contrast, help to neutralise the natural redness in my skin and give the most natural, brightening effect to the skin.
Finally, it would be impossible to talk about powders that give skin that ethereal glow without mentioning the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders. I have the trio palette that was limited edition last December and I use it almost every day in some capacity. To give my skin the ultimate luminous, soft-focus look, I tend to just swirl my brush across the three of them and dust all over my skin.
