ghd AIR™ Amethyst Hairdryer

This is a scheduled post as I am away on holiday at the moment! I'll reply to any comments, questions or queries when I get back!

I was recently given the opportunity to trial one of the new ghd AIR* hairdryers from the Jewel collection. Honestly, the offer couldn't have come at a better time because my old hairdryer had just bitten the dust after many years of serving me faithfully and I was starting to look at which one would be the best replacement.

I knew I wanted something light as my previous one had been a professional hairdryer that weighed a tonne and made my arm ache after awhile. It also had to have decent wattage behind it so it would get my hair dry reasonably quickly. So, the AIR dryer seemed like the perfect option for me and I gladly accepted the offer to try it out.

Festival Beauty Kit

I'm heading to Electric Picnic tomorrow morning, and as I haven't been in a couple of years, I am beyond excited. By the time you read this, I will probably be en route with far more than I am able to carry comfortably, despite my efforts to downsize! On a side note, I will also obviously be bringing soap, toothbrush, toothpaste etc, but didn't quite feel like photographing the entire contents of my rucksack...

Beauty Booty ¦ A Multi-Part Trip

This is a scheduled post as I am away on holiday at the moment! I'll reply to any comments, questions or queries when I get
back!

I'm heading off on holiday today and, as usual, I wanted to share what beauty bits I'm bringing with me. I love reading these posts (and hope you do too!) as I think it's a great way to get inspiration for packing wisely and it also provides a look at what products the person can't live without for a few weeks; a skeleton make-up collection of sorts!

As you can probably tell by the title, I'm packing for a multi-part trip. We're starting with a four-day stay in Rome followed by a cruise where we will hop, skip and jump around the boot of Italy and zig-zag across the Adriatic Sea, making stops along the way, and finishing with a night in Venice. The fact that it's a cruise means that you need to be prepared for a number of different occasions; beach, pool, casual, semi-formal and formal, and that somewhat applies to beauty requirements too!

I learned a lot after going on a similar holiday last year and have tried to fine-tune my beauty (and clothes!) packing this year to allow for a more streamlined suitcase. I have already done a City Break version of this post so, have a read of that to get an idea of what products I consider best to withstand a day traipsing around a stinking hot city! I will be substituting some products in; the Diorskin Nude BB Creme and NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer especially but, same principles apply for longwearing, easy going make-up.

Bourjois Bronzing Primer

The Bourjois Bronzing Primer* is not exactly news at this stage, but I am so enamoured with the stuff that I just couldn't go without mentioning it here on the blog. It's been hailed as a cheaper version of the famed Soleil Tan de Chanel, but I can't really compare the two as I don't have the Chanel bronzer.

My Face #6

I've bought a few new bits of make-up recently and have been reviewing it over the last few weeks so, I figured it was about time that I showed you how it all looks in action! This is my current everyday make-up, give or take a smokey eye or a bright lip, and I have been loving it! I'll link all the reviews below in case you are interested in a more in-depth look at some of the products.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder ¦ Dim Light

London always bleeds me dry of both energy and cash. I came back from my weekend there last month totally exhausted and a tad broke, but it was 100% worth it. This powder was one of the most expensive items of make-up that I've ever bought, but I am crazy in love with it - and will be counting the ways in this post.

Splurge/Save: Lip Balm

Like most beauty obsessives, I am no stranger to splurging. In fact, I probably splurge on beauty products more often than I should but, hey, everyone needs their vices, right?! However, I have noticed that sometimes it's really not necessary to spend a bundle on cosmetics. While we may like a certain product at a higher price point, it doesn't mean that a cheaper alternative isn't just as effective.

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

Due to the fact that my skin is oily, temperamental and also increasingly sensitive, I have been extremely hesitant to try out a cleansing balm, even though I've been hearing great things about them for the longest time. I am obsessive about removing my make-up properly and, up until buying this product, had been getting on very well with La Roche-Posay's Physiological Gel Cleanser and Kinvara's Cleansing Oil (both brilliant products) to get rid of make-up and grime.

L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Mist For Fine Hair

Last May I gave the L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil a rave review. It was the first time I had tried a hair oil of any real quality and I was blown away by the results. That bottle is long since gone and I have tried a few different ones here and there but, nothing has impressed me or worked with my hair as well as the Extraordinary Oil. Happily, L'Oréal have added to the Extraordinary Oil line-up with a Mist* (€14.99) that is intended for use on fine hair.

Clarins Graphic Expressions ¦ A/W 2013

Clarins' latest launch is a really impressive and strong line-up of products; whilst perhaps not the most immediately enticing or unusual looking edit, these are all very usable and durable items; buys that you will find yourself returning to and relying on rather than tossing to one side after the novelty has worn off.

This is a large collection; covering everything from foundation, to fancy palettes to concealer - what I have pictured here is not the entire collection, and better still, most of these products are permanent so there is no rush to pick them all up straight away. There's a very solid selection of kohl pencils, autumnal shades of Joli Rouge lipstick, €21, Be Long Mascara in black and (limited edition) brown, €26, as well as the infamous 3-Dot liner, €25, which I personally don't get along with at all - though that's not to say that many others do!

USA Beauty Picks

In beauty (and TV!) terms, Europe tends to be months behind the USA on product launches. And that's the good news. The bad news is that, more often than not, the beauty brands that are so incredibly popular stateside never even make it here. How that makes sense I do not know but, I thought I would share some of my US beauty picks with you in case you or a friend are going there in the next little while and want to raid the drugstore/Sephora!

Budget Beauty Favourites

While I loathe to admit it, I am a bit of make-up snob. I think I just assume that, because X powder is twice the price of Y powder, X powder must be better. However, over the last three years of writing this blog, I have become privvy to some of the best beauty products around and a large number of them are budget picks that I incorporate frequently into my make-up routine. Admittedly, a lot of the content on this blog is on the luxury end of the scale (though we do try to maintain a balance) so, I thought I would share some of my budget beauty favourites.

Elnett Satin The Catwalk Collection

I can't smell Elnett hairspray without thinking of my nana. She is my ultimate favourite person and so many snippets of memories that I have of my formative years are of sitting beside her, in front of her ornate dressing table, watching in the mirror as she doused her perfectly coiffed hair in a cloud of Elnett. I love that she still does that to this day. It's her signature.

Take 3 ¦ Clay Masks

I always, always have to have a clay mask of some sort in my skincare routine. Without the help of clay, my unruly pores go berserk and my skin appears even more oily and blackhead-ridden than normal.

Diorskin Nude BB Creme

Last week I shared my thoughts on the Chanel Les Beiges pressed powder and, today, I wanted to update you on another product I bought in London, Diorskin Nude BB Creme. As with the Chanel powder, this BB cream has been surrounded by a lot of hype and, being the sucker that I am, I was hellbent on trying it out.

Chanel Les Beiges

As a beauty brand, Chanel has the uncanny ability to quietly create a whirlwind of hype around their products. I wouldn't mind if the stuff was cheap but, it's coming in on the luxury side of the market and yet, still, we keep on clamoring for the next big release. Well played, Chanel, well played.

Les Beiges, Chanel's new pressed powder product debuted a few months ago to near mass hysteria and sold out everywhere (and is still hard to get) but, I managed to finally get my hands on the lightest shade, B10, in the Chanel Pop-Up Boutique in London's Covent Garden and I wanted to give you some feedback on it having used it for around 3 weeks now!

Dee's Makeup Bag

I don't think I've ever really done one of these "What's in my Makeup Bag" style posts, mainly because I never really had a nice one, and also because the contents of mine gets switched up all the time. I decided now would be a good time to do one because I am really loving what I have on rotation at the moment, and I also finally have a pretty (and practical) bag to keep them all in!

I'd always liked the Ted Baker makeup bags and had toyed with the idea of buying one, but when they came out with this French bulldog print, I was sold straight away. It's a really nice solid, free-standing, waterproof number, with a good quality zip and, most importantly, plenty of room inside!

Skincare Staples

I can't get enough of skincare. I have a whole tower of drawers dedicated to back-up skincare products (Organised by La Roche-Posay and Vichy, Clarins, Lancome and Philosophy, Miscellaneous in case anyone cares!) and while I love dipping in and out of these treasure troves, I do have a few staple products in my skincare line-up that I will not be without and have/will repurchase. For some products, I will be as specific as to only repurchase that exact brand and product but, for others, I just know that I always need to have that type of product to hand. So, let me share must-have skincare staples!

Concealer Crazy

Gosh, it seems like it was a lifetime ago when I was bemoaning the fact that I could not get a concealer that would sit right on my skin! Now, it is one of my beauty obsessions and I am always clamouring to try the next "big thing" in the world of concealers! Having put many different ones through their paces, I thought I would share those that made the cut and that I think are genuinely top notch!

Loose Powder Lowdown

At the risk of sounding frivolous and dramatic (let's face it, I usually do), loose powder is a hugely critical step in my daily make-up routine. I always finish off my liquid base and concealer with a loose powder in the morning - I find it sets everything perfectly and makes my make-up last as long as possible, which is my main concern at the moment as I'm working long days without much time for touch-ups.

There are a zillion of loose powders on the market, and I'm currently flitting between three; Vichy Dermablend, Clarins Mineral Loose Powder and Laura Mercier Mineral Powder. I love them all for different reasons - that is by no means to say that you all need to run out and buy all three, but if you're interested in investing in a good loose powder, this post might help.

Wishlist: August

Happy August everyone! I know I say this almost every month but, I can't believe how quickly this year is passing. This month is exciting because I am going on holiday and am so looking forward to the break from reality! I've compiled a few items I have been lusting after and I hope you'll share your current wishlists with me in the comments!

My MAC Palette

Sometimes, it is my most-used products that I overlook in blogging terms, and this palette is a case in point.

I've slowly built up my collection of MAC eyeshadows and blushers over the years. It took me a long time to buy into the hype of their eyeshadows in particular as for ages, I hardly even wore eyeshadow, just flicked-out liquid eyeliner. The first Naked palette came out around the time that I started to get serious about eyeshadow, blending and crease colours etc, so that placated me for a while. I've built up this collection gradually and the more of them I have, the more I understand the hype around MAC eyeshadows. I love Inglot too, but these really are top quality, particularly the Veluxe Pearl ones. Everyone needs a few in their collection!

There are a million and one blog posts and YouTube videos about products from MAC's permanent line, but I always find it interesting to see what products people reach for the most. I haven't swatched them but if you are interested in a particular shade, Google has hundreds of swatches! This palette is definitely a daily staple for me, I reach for it about 95% of the time since I finally got around to depotting, so if you have a lot of MAC products hanging in their individual pots, I would definitely recommend divvying them up into this or a Z Palette. I've a good few shades here so am just doing a short description of each one - if you've any questions, just ask! One thing to note is that this palette was obviously built up with my own colouring in mind - I am very pale with blue eyes and dark hair, and tend to favour warm eyeshadows, especially golds, bronze and russet tones. Oh, and you can buy blush/shadow inserts for the MAC palettes but for now, I like how everything is in the one place!
