Maybelline Baby Lips

It's testament to how good budget/drugstore brands have become in recent years that we wait with bated breath for cult products to reach our shores from the US. We have had the Maybelline Colour Tattoos, the Revlon Kissable Balm Stains and now we have the Maybelline Baby Lips* at our fingertips!

More London Beauty Buys

Last weekend, it was my turn to hit London. I headed over with my friend Jenny and as we were staying with her brother, I was left with more spending money than usual. I'd been saving for this trip, plus it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and I got paid the day before I headed off, so, a lot of make-up buying ensued. I'm ridiculously happy with everything I picked up and can't wait to start working them into my daily routine!

I also bought two skincare items that I forgot to photograph because, well, they're in my bathroom as I've really been enjoying using them. They are both Caroline Hirons-approved products - the Clinique Take the Day Off cleansing balm and Pixi Glow Tonic. I felt like a bit of a sheep buying them, but hey, they're working wonderfully so far. An updated skincare routine post is well overdue from me so, keep an eye out for that and I'll go into more detail about those products then!

Top 5 ¦ Brushes

If you have been reading the blog for awhile, you will know that brushes are a big beauty obsession of mine. I love trying all the different brands, shapes and types in an attempt to find the best uses for them. However, I was doing my make-up last weekend in London and I realised that there are only five brushes that I truly reach for on a daily basis at the moment. So, I thought I would share them with you, including why I love them, in case you are looking to expand your collection or are just starting with make-up and aren't sure how to navigate the minefield that is brushes!

Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow

Make Up For Ever is a much-coveted brand in the beauty world, and one that can be overlooked by us. We are lucky to have ready access to the brand (if you didn't know, they have a shop on Dublin's Clarendon Street), as I know that it is much more difficult for people in the UK to find MUFE.
Dee bought this a while ago and has been obsessed. Sinéad was subsequently sent it and is equally enamoured. Our eyebrows are totally different so, if it works for both of us, we think it is safe to say that this is a really great product that most of you will get along nicely with.

London Beauty Bits

As you may know from my Friday post, this past weekend I went to London for a girlie weekend with my sisters. I had such a good time and, while the majority of it was filled with great food and as many restaurants as we could fit in, we also managed to do quite a bit of shopping - of course!

I think I was quite restrained, only buying a few clothing items (which I presume you don't want to see!)  and even fewer beauty bits but, seeing as this is a beauty blog and many of these are items I have mentioned before, I wanted to show ya'll what I picked up as well as any initial impressions.

Nail Chat - Cuticles, Manicures and Guilt

I haven't been painting my nails all that much recently.

I know... Let me explain. It all started when I was treated to a Red Carpet Manicure at the launch a while back. RCM is basically a DIY two week gel polish system - not everyone likes it but I was really happy with my mani. I loved the tomato-coral colour, the shine, and the durability it lended my nails. I'm really busy these days and appreciated the lasting power so much - it's nice to have one less thing to worry about appearance-wise. Would I buy the kit? Probably not as I'd prefer to get something like that done in a salon - I feel like I would just destroy my nails if I was let loose with my own kit, plus I have such a ridiculous collection of nail polish already.

Vichy Aqualia Night Spa

A couple of weeks ago, I blogged about a hydrating masque from La Roche-Posay which quickly achieved Holy Grail status in my eyes. Then, fellow French-brand Vichy had to go and make me feel all conflicted by releasing their ultra-hydrating treatment, Vichy Aqualia Night Spa (RRP €27.00)! After briefly bemoaning the fact I didn't have two faces so I could enjoy both products, I set the La Roche-Posay aside to give the Vichy a fair shot.

Beauty Booty ¦ A City Break

I'm off to London today on a rather impromptu trip with my sisters. London is one of my favourite places and I had been craving a visit since the beginning of the year so, when my mam offered to send my sisters and I on a girlie weekend, I obviously jumped at the chance and feel so lucky and excited to be going back!

We're really testing ourselves and only bringing hand luggage. Clothing-wise, this doesn't bother me but, when it comes to editing down my beauty bits into things less that 100ml, that poses more of a challenge! I hate to overpack so, I have put some conscious effort into deciding what I will bring so that I am covered for all eventualities.

For me, packing beauty for a city break is about two things; longwearing products and day-to-night looks. When you spend 12+ hours walking around a city, you want your make-up to withstand the heat, sweat, air conditioning and odd rain shower as you won't always have time to nip back to the hotel to touch up. Similarly, I like to bring products that can easily be transitioned from day-to-night with just a slick of a different lipstick or a darker eyeshadow in the crease. Time is of the essence when you are visiting a city for a few days so, keep things simple for yourself and don't waste time faffing about redoing your make-up multiple times a day!

MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash

For years and years, MAC mascaras were all I used. I remember watching countless YouTube "gurus" who openly stated that they hated the brands mascaras and I was so confused because every one I had ever tried worked really well for me. Then, I started this blog and immersed myself even more in the online beauty world and came to see that there were countless other mascara brands out there that I needed to try. Flash forward almost 3 years and there is not one MAC mascara in my Top 5. Well, until now that is!

Smells like Summer

We've all been embracing the summer like mad here in Ireland of late - I am not enjoying the commute in this heat but, apart from that I am all for it! I have a few bits that I've come to enjoy even more than usual now that it's hotter; they're all "smelly stuff" with beachy or fruity scents that for once, actually feel really appropriate to use right now. Most of them would also be brilliant to take away on a sun holiday if you've room in your suitcase!

L'Oreal Paris Neon Pop Collection

Neon is here to stay for yet another season and one of the easiest ways to sport this trend is with a slick of fluoro polish on your nails. Following on from the neon collections of brands like Essie and Nails Inc, L'Oreal Paris have dropped the Neon Pop* (RRP €7.49) collection, a quad of bright and juicy nail shades.

The Body Shop Colour Crush Lipstick

We are all about our lipstick here at Viva Adonis, and have become increasingly fussy about them as our knowledge about beauty has increased with writing the blog. The Body Shop have recently overhauled their line of lipsticks, bringing in a new range of Colour Crush* shades, and we've three to show you today.

My Face #5

It's been awhile since I've done one of these My Face style posts. So much so, I don't even know for sure if it is #5 but, sure, we'll run with it! Basically, the weather is good at the moment - shocker, I know, and my make-up has become really simple. I'm all about light coverage, bronzed skin and bright lips and I thought I would fill you in on what I'm using everyday to achieve this.

Kérastase Ciment Thermique

As a person who puts a good bit of effort into my hair care, I really don't discuss it enough here on the blog! I'll be making a conscious effort from now on to talk haircare more often, although I really don't find it half as exciting or interesting as makeup. That said, I am pretty damn excited about this product and have been telling pretty must everyone I know in real life how, like, uhmazingg it really is. Having bored all of my friends and family to death, I'm here to report to y'all about why I love Ciment Thermique so bloody much.

Essie Minis and Sets

If there is one thing Irish beauty obsessives complain about it is the extortionate prices of products here in comparison to the USA and, to a lesser extent, the UK. When Essie finally landed on our shores a year or so ago, we all seemed to rejoice at having it just "down the road" in the shop. However, our elation was short-lived when we realised that one bottle of pretty polish from the brand's curtailed diffusion line would set us back roughly a tenner. No bueno.
I've seen a lot of people saying that they won't buy Essie because of the price and I get that. There is really no need to spend over €7 on a nail polish when brands like Barry M, Maybelline and Rimmel do such excellent polishes for a song. However, I still harbour a love for Essie; the bottles, the brushes, the shade range, so, I was chuffed to see that the brand is stepping up its game and including Essie mini sets in the line-up that seem to be better value than buying the polishes separately.

Blog Swap: SimoneLovesMakeup

When my good friend Simone approached me with the idea of a blog swap, I thought it was inspired! It seemed like a great idea to change things up a bit and introduce you to different products that either I haven't tried or that might not be available here (Simone lives in Dubai). We settled on the theme of current favourites so, I'm handing the reins over to Simone today to let ya'll in on what she's loving for the summer season. After you're done here, head on over to her blog to see what I picked and have a mosey through her posts; trust me, you'll be hooked!
_________________________________________________________________________________________

It's permanently summer where I live, so that means high SPF, lots of bronzer and long lasting products all year round. I'm particularly obsessed with protecting my hair ever since I paid a visit to Toni & Guy in Bahrain last year and the stylist told me my hair was sun damaged - I couldn't believe it! As it's reaching 45 degrees and upwards in Dubai at the moment I've started to bust out the big guns as it were, the fail safe high octane products that won't let me down.

Garnier Ultimate Beauty Oil

I tend to get a bit bored of writing about body products, even though I am getting through them at a ferocious rate these days. Gone are the days when I was just using whatever shower gel was knocking around the house and no body lotion - I am now something of a snob for any kind of body lotion, butter or oil. Garnier Ultimate Beauty Oil* is one of a few on rotation right now.

Vera Wang Pink Princess

I was never massively fond of Vera Wang Princess. I liked it on other people but, on me, it always seemed sickly sweet and left me feeling quite heady. So, when I was sent a sample of Pink Princess*, the follow-up fragrance, I was decidedly skeptical. However, one spray later and I was hooked!

MAC Tropical Taboo | July 2013

Another week, another MAC collection... but it's another good one, promise.

At least once a year, MAC like to come out with a collection that focuses heavily on their Mineralize products, which to me are some of the brand's strongest. I usually end up buying something from the annual Mineralize roll-out; last year it was Solar Ray blush, and the year before was the year of the amazing eyeshadows, Golden Gaze and Smoked Ruby. This year, Tropical Taboo appears to be something of a continuation on from the Temperature Rising which was out earlier this summer - it's all about hot, tropical climates, with plenty of colour, pulling inspiration from Brazilian carnivals and jungle landscapes.

We've two products from the collection to show you today, and you know what? They're both very, very good!

It also means that it's time for me to share what lovely bits and pieces I am coveting this month.
