Max Factor Glossfinity

Don't ya just love a new nail polish release? It's great to see that brands don't get complacent, that they are always upping their games and consistently attempting to revolutionise a product that was first created in its modern form way back in 1917 by Cutex. For 2013, Max Factor are introducing their new Glossfinity* (RRP €7.49) nail polishes. Designed to be an intensely glossy and long-wearing formula, Glossfinity comes in 26 shades, both classic and trend-driven.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation

017

Foundation is a huge, huge deal for me and I know that most of you guys are the same. I'm always looking for the perfect base, and the occasion is extremely rare that I find one that I'd repurchase. This foundation is definitely one that I'd buy again, so I knew I had to write about it!

I'm sure most of you have heard of this foundation. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation has been talked about a lot over the last year (by Orla especially!), so I'm definitely late to the party here. It's a light, blendable base which has won a lot of praise for its natural, dewy, 'second skin' effect.

Bobbi Brown Corrector vs. Tinted Eye Brightener

You might have seen my post last week  where I updated you on the current basics in my make-up routine, that is the foundation, concealer and powder that is a constant. In that post I spoke about my love for the Bobbi Brown Corrector and my emerging love for the revamped Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener.

Both of these products are intended for use on darkness under the eye. The entire range (12 shades of Corrector and 10 shades of Tinted Eye Brightener; I am Porcelain Bisque in both) is either salmon or peach toned, designed to neutralise blueness and give a lifted, brightened effect to the whole area.

Overrated.

Beauty bloggers and vloggers often talk about products which aren't worth the hype, that they have bought into, believed the mass hysteria about and have been royally disappointed by when they actually get them in their grasp. We've all been there, it's a hazard of the trade, and I wanted to share with you some of the products that I think are overrated. Now, let me preface this by saying that I don't think any of these products are bad, per say, but, I don't think that they are worth the rapturous applause and OTT reaction that we, myself included, gave them.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer

013

Concealer is a critical part of my everyday makeup routine, yet something that I haven't really covered in-depth on the blog. I have mentioned that I really love the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer and have been using it pretty consistently for over a year now. I'm not one for trying loads of different concealers; I stick to what I know works, because there is nothing worse than a concealer that lets you down half-way through the day, or fails to cover blemishes properly.

Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Cuticle Eraser & Balm

Have you ever seen a cuter looking product? This is the Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Cuticle Eraser & Balm (RRP €9.95) and, for some reason, seeing the little swirls brings a smile to my face! This product, from one of our favourite nail brands, is an all-in-one combination remover and crème which softens and removes jagged cuticles and hangnails while also conditioning nails and cuticles.

More Hydrating Serums: Hydraluron & Vichy

010

Without a doubt, my best skincare discovery of the last year or so has to have been hydrating serums. They've helped me rebalance and rehydrate my dehydrated and oily skin type, resulting in  a more even and healthy-looking complexion. The freezing weather has really hit us hard this week, and I think that this type of skincare product is invaluable when it comes to preventing skin from drying out. I've tried plenty of serums at this stage - Nuxe (€34), Clarins (€45) and La Roche-Posay (€23) among them, and today I'm talking about two more!

January 21, 2013

Basics.

If you read my January Wishlist, you'll know that I was looking to change-up my foundation routine and had my eye on some products from Bobbi Brown and Vichy to do just that. I finally placed an order last week from House of Fraser and, amazingly, it arrived within two days of ordering so, I wanted to update you all on what I am currently using for my foundation and base routine and how I'm finding the products.

Cream Bases 101

I am a big fan of cream eyeshadow bases. I love how they prolong the weartime of any eyeshadow, how they intensify colour payoff, how they prevent creasing and how they can even transform how multichromatic shadows appear. In some cases, these bases can also double as cream eyeshadows making them incredibly multi-purpose and definitely worth the price. I raided my collection and rounded up some of my preferred cream bases, some high-end and some cheaper, to give you the lowdown on the ones I particularly rate, the pros and cons of each and how I recommend using them.

Pixy Rose Cleansing Mud

016

You might have read previous posts mentioning Pixy Natural on this blog - if not, they're basically a natural cosmetics company, akin to Lush, with a wide array of skin and bath products. This post is about my absolute favourite product that I've tried from the brand so far - read on to hear more about it!

Avon Perfect Kiss Lipstick

We love Avon and we've made no secret of the fact (See our Best of Avon post for our top picks). So, it's probably unsurprising that we get massively excited whenever a new release from the brand lands with us. Given that we are also lipstick fiends, Avon's newest offering, Perfect Kiss Lipstick (RRP €11.00), had us in a right flap. Available in 24 shades, including nudes, pinks, purples, reds and browns, Perfect Kiss promises to be nourishing and smoothing while also delivering a punch of on-trend colour. We have five shades to give you our verdict on!

Top Gel Eyeliners

Gel eyeliners have been around for donkeys’ years at this stage, but have only relatively recently become available on the mass market. If you’re not familiar with this type of product, let me break it down: a gel eyeliner is a creamy product that comes in a pot and is applied with a brush. The formula of a good quality gel eyeliner is extremely opaque, jet-black and long-lasting, meaning that they are often utilised by make-up artists. For personal use, it really is a matter of preference, but a steady hand and a bit of practice with them can give you stunning results. I know plenty of people who are kind of terrified of gel liner and prefer to stick to liquid or pencil, but gel can look so much more polished, making it well worth experimenting with!

Beginning to Blog

So, you want to start a blog? Or maybe you have recently started one but, in any case, welcome to the fold! The blogosphere is a vast, varied and, for the most part, a wonderful place where you get as much out of it as you put in.

I have only been blogging for a little over two years so, by no means, would I consider myself an expert. However, looking back over my blogging "career", if you will, I can pinpoint mistakes I have made (there have been many) and things I wished I had done from Day 1 that I just had no idea about at the time and no one to ask. So, I thought it would be a worthwhile post to share with you some stuff I wish I had considered when Dee and I started carving out our slice of the Internet and which I think would help any newbie bloggers get their feet off the ground. So, let's start at the very beginning (A very good place to start!) though, please bear in mind these are just tips and ideas based on my own experiences. It's not gospel and if you don't want to do something or don't agree then that's fine!

The Best Products for Sensitive Skin

Having sensitive skin can be a scourge. Sun allergies, cold allergies, rashes and inflammations are ever present threats to those of us with temperamental skin and that's before we even consider the adverse effects beauty products and their ingredients can have on us.

While I am, by no means, an expert, I have suffered with all of the above at some point of another and also have periodic eczema flare ups which last anywhere from a week to 5 years as the latest one (now cured, thankfully) has shown. So, I definitely have to be careful with the products I put on my skin and, through much trial and error I have found a nice and tidy line-up of beauty goodies which should suit many sensitive skintypes and, also, provide some relief during times when your skin isn't playing ball.

What I'm Wearing #4: Kate Moss 107

001

I've been feeling quite behind with blogging over the last while. It was just a classic case of 'real life' getting in the way - I was extremely busy and stressed over exams in the run-up to Christmas, and, as soon as I got time off, I was unfortunate enough to get the worst flu that I've had in a very long time. Typical! Anyhow, I feel a bit more organised now that it's the new year and all that. I will let you in on a bit of a secret, though - these pictures were taken about a month ago! Gasp! Bad blogger.

My Shower Caddy

I still live at home and share a bathroom with my sisters so, quite often, we will share things like shampoo, conditioner, bodywash etc. However, for things like razors, scrubs, hair oils and bits I'm testing I prefer to ferry them back and forth to the bathroom for fear that they get grabbed by accident and used up. I was recently changing out the contents of my little shower caddy and resolved to show you what I am currently using, enjoying and what I recommend.

Acne Arsenal: Some Skincare Tips

Never mind teenage spots, adult acne can be just as (if not more) traumatic. Spots can occur for adults due to a myriad of factors – hormones, stress, pregnancy, menopause, sugary foods and pollution can all make skin go a bit crazy. Women in their twenties and beyond will most commonly suffer with acne on the jaw line, which is directly related to hormones. This is a problem that I continue to battle myself, along with an oily to normal skin type which I am also constantly working to keep in check.

I've seen a lot of people online vowing to establish a decent skincare routine in 2013. With that in mind, I thought I'd strip everything back to basics, and share what I consider to be the most important steps in my own (religious) routine. Bear in mind I do also use eye cream and a few different type of face masks, but this is the bones of my skincare 'philosophy'!

Although they aren't all what I'm using right now, all of the products mentioned are ones that I have used and would recommend. I've included three in each category, so you've a bit of choice in terms of price and availability. So, without any more fuss, here's what works for me!

Wishlist: January

Despite the fact that Christmas has just passed and most of us are steering clear of the shops and casting only the most fleeting glance at the sales, that doesn't stop us from compiling a list of bits and bobs that catch our eyes, filing them away for a later date when we feel a bit less guilty for dipping into our bank accounts.

Without making much of a conscious decision, I have found myself majorly reducing my spending on cosmetics and beauty products. I have so many products saved up and half-used that I really want to finish and, in the process, reduce the amount of stuff I have lying around. However, that doesn't stop me lusting after new releases so, I thought I would do a monthly wishlist to draw your attention to products I think are worth checking out as well as some other fun, non-beauty bits that I want but, most likely, will never actually get! I love these posts from other bloggers so, hopefully you like them too!

1. Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturising Balm // 2. Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener // 3. Rebecca Minkoff Pouch // 4. MAC Fluidline Brow Gelcreme // 5. Vichy Dermablend Powder // 6. Marc by Marc Jacobs Mouse

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint

002

It feels like I haven't blogged about a nail polish in forever (in reality, it's been less than a month), but I'm back with a recent purchase which I've been really loving a lot!

What's In My Make-Up Bag?

Changing over to a new make-up bag a few days ago, I realised it had been quite awhile since I updated you all on what I carry with me on a day-to-day basis. Obviously I like to keep any make-up bag I have as streamlined as possible given that I have to lug it around with me but, as my routine and needs change, so does the contents of this bag i.e. Uniflu replaces extra SPF come wintertime. I like to think of this little pouch as an emergency stash. Whether I need a simple make-up touch-up, a plaster or a safety pin, I live comfortably in the knowledge that it all can be found in the depths of this bag.

Oh, and a note on the bag as it is the reason I thought to do this post at all; it is quite fancy pants but, fear not, it was an absolute steal amid the lacklustre and disappointing post-Christmas sales, a steal that was made all the more justifiable by being able to use a giftvoucher on it! I really love it and the little bit of luxury it gives to my everyday life and it'll be our little secret that it was heavily reduced so, shhh!

Urban Decay Naked Basics

039

Happy new year blog people! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas - mine was very quiet, but that's exactly how I like it, and I feel really lucky! So, I want to give my two cents on one of my most recent purchases. It's (finally) here, it's the new 'it' palette, and, at this stage, we've all heard about it. Just in case you've been hibernating, Naked Basics is the latest offering from Urban Decay. It's a compact, well-put-together palette, made up of six shades - one is a pearly-shimmer finish, and the rest are all matte. The hard, slightly rubberised packaging makes this , in my opinion, the most durable out of all the Naked palettes and is perfect for travelling.

New Beauty Bits

Happy New Year ladies (and any gentlemen lurking out there!). I hope you all had a wonderful and peaceful Christmas period. I most certainly did and really enjoyed having some downtime filled with great company, good food and lots and lots of much-needed sleep! Now, however, it's back to business and I thought there was no better way to kick off the new year with a post on some new beauty bits and bobs I got, both for myself and as presents.

I hate that I even have to say this but, this post is not intended as bragging. While I love reading/watching Christmas "hauls" myself, I understand that some people dislike the nature of the content so, I am just showing items which are relevant to this blog and our readers' interests as the products will crop up over the next few months. By all means, if this isn't your thing, feel free to click the X!
