If there's any week that you should be rocking a red lip, it's this one. Christmas parties and outings are at their peak, and I for one have been finding it difficult to wear anything but red lipstick lately! I know that not everyone is uber-confident about wearing red but, honestly, to me it's the most empowering, ladylike shade of lipstick and I'd be lost without it. I feel like a matte, vampy, old-school red lip is perfect for Christmas, as the finish will last through many a party or dinner.
MAC DIVA: The perfect vampy dark red for those of you that have a deep skintone or tan on the regular (I couldn't be bothered lately). I've had this for a long time and go through phases with it; your lips need to be in tip-top condition for this to really work, but when it's done right, it looks amazing with minimal eye make-up. If you're scared of it being too dark, blot it on as a stain or use a bright red liner like MAC Cherry underneath!
MAKE UP FOR EVER AQUA ROUGE 10*: A more pink-toned deep red. A waterproof, long-wearing liquid lipstick, Aqua Rouge applies like a gloss but dries to the finish of any other super-pigmented matte lipstick that I own, and I love it. Be aware if you swatch these that the colour tends to darken a bit over the first hour or so of wear; this settles to a nice deep red for me.
RIMMEL KATE MOSS 107: The most 'wine-y' out of all the shades featured here, this is pretty much a cult classic already. It's one of those shades that looks great on pretty much everyone, and the formula is just brilliant for a cheap lipstick - matte but light, and not as drying as MAC's offerings. Oh, and I love the smell of a Rimmel lipstick because they remind me of being 17!
NARS CRUELLA: When I bought this a few weeks ago, I was sure that I didn't need another matte red.. honestly, I was wrong. This is honestly one of the best matte formulations I've ever tried - and when it comes to lipsticks, I'm a veteran! It's light, lasts well, reapplies perfectly and the shade is stunning. A dark red with just the right amount of blue in it - I can't stop wearing this lately and will be picking up more of these pencils as soon as I can afford to!
MAC RUBY WOO: Yes, I'm sneaking another MAC red in (I just can't quit them), and of course, it's one of their most famous shades. It's also the brightest of the bunch when swatched - the decidedly blue base makes teeth look sparkly white, and you can layer it up to get a deeper shade of red. This is just one of those shades that everyone should own - I don't know anyone who's tried this and not liked it!
