Maybelline Super Stay 24H Waterproof Powder

Anybody in the market for a new powder? I didn't think I was but, me oh my, this stuff is all kinds of beautiful. New from Maybelline is the Super Stay 24H Waterproof Powder* (RRP €8.99), an anti-shine, water repelling formula that promises to stay light and comfortable on the skin all day long.

Maybelline describe the formula as "hydrophobic" which means that it acts as a barrier to external water as well as resisting sweat, heat and humidity. It also promises to prevent the powder shade changing colour throughout the day, ensuring you're not left with that oxidised, orange cast. All this good stuff, however, does come at a price. The powder contains silicone to control shine and draw moisture away from the skin. Silicones don't bother me but, I know they are a no-no for some people so I just wanted to point that out.

There are two main reasons I like this powder; it mattifies the skin without leaving me looking like a corpse and it makes my skin look, and feel, very soft and smooth. I've included a before "no powder" shot and an after shot with powder below, just to show you the difference. I will concede it is not as easy to see in photos as it is in real life but, I do feel like my skintone in the After picture is a lot more even. You can also see that the powder concealed the freckles on my nose quite well and I have a sneaking suspicion that this could suffice as a standalone base for more casual days when you don't want to trowel it on.

I think that this is a beautiful product at a very favourable pricepoint. The sleek little compact is handbag friendly and it comes with a decent sized mirror. As with all drugstore brands, the shade range is unimaginative and I have to work carefully with 10 Ivory to ensure make face still matches my neck. That being said, I can't really fault the formula or the longwearing nature of the product so, from me, two thumbs up!

  4. Waterproof powder makes me think of a really thick, cakey product but this looks so natural! I need a new powder badly, mine is disastrous.
