As part of the Midnight Blacks collection, L'Oréal have released a trio of mascaras (also accompanied by three Superliner Midnights and paired with complementary Colour Riche Eyeshadow Quads) that are massively on-trend with just a hint of gem tones running throughout. Blue is described as a "precious blue-black", Purple a "mysterious purple" and Black a "rich depth of black".The formula contains multi-reflective pigments which diffuse light to reflect the gem-coloured undertone and it also contains Cocoon fibres to add physical length to the lashes.
The real star here isn't the colours or the formula, rather, it is the wand. Branded by L'Oréal as an "Asymmetric Butterfly Brush", this wand is far and away the best type of mascara wand for my lashes. It is designed with two lengths of raised bristles towards the base of the wand which are supposed to add length and lift to the outer lashes. This is a huge deal for me as, for some reason, the lashes on the outer corner of my left eye can't be curled (without pinching my lid) and this is the first mascara that actually gives them the same shape and appearance as the rest.
The only downside for me is that the wand is too cumbersome for my bottom lashes. To avoid lots of mascara dots on my face, I just use another mascara on the lower lashline which works great and compliments the gorgeously fanned upper lashline. Apologies for the quality of the photos below; I had no other make-up on and it was late in the evening so, no natural light unfortunately!
For the holiday season, the gem tones of these mascaras are wonderfully appropriate - although my heart lies with the extra black shade. From the wand to the formula to the packaging, everything about this mascara is perfect for me and I give it a rare 10/10!
