If you had told me five or six years ago that my go-to nail polish colour would be a dirty, mucky shade of grey-brown, I would have laughed at you. However, greige; that murky halfway house between beige and grey, has been the nail colour of the autumn/winter season for the past few years and I have, of course, succumbed to the trend!
My collection of "greiges" far outnumbers those shown here but, I wanted to pick five of my favourites that fall all across the shade spectrum to share with you. There is no logical reason why I, or anyone else, should like these types of colours but, that they are here to stay for yet another year is testament to the fact that they look so chic and so flattering on everyone.
Max Factor Glossfinity is a nail polish range that I have reviewed (and loved!) before and Opal* is still my standout shade. It falls into the pale, grey-toned greige family and is a nice alternative to full-on white nail polish. The colour actually reminds me of the modelling clay we used to use in school which (again, can't believe I am saying this!) isn't a bad thing!
More beige than grey, LVX Greige* is a beautiful milky shade that looks classy and understated. Sometimes the full-on, purple and brown tone greige polishes can be a bit much, a bit too murky for some people so, opting for a toned down version like this is a great way of embracing the trend without feeling self-conscious about it.
If we mixed the above shade with some dark grey, we would come out with Sally Hansen Greige. This concrete coloured polish is not for the fainthearted but, it does the most amazing things to fair skintones, ensuring that it looks cool and chic instead of dour and industrial.
Sally Hansen does greige really well and Greige Gardens* is the purple sister of Greige (how many times in this post can I say "greige"?!). A lot warmer than any of the previous polishes, the lavender undertones make this one of the most wearable and also unique polishes in the greige family.
Ciate Fade to Greige is one step up from Greige Gardens with a lot of plum and red undertones. This was my go-to shade around Halloween last year and, since rediscovering it in my stash for this post, it's been on my nails consistently!
If you can't tell, I love greige nail polish. For whatever reason, something that looks so dank and dour in the bottle is the epitome of chic and sophisticated on the nails. It's one of the few nail colours that people comment on when I wear it and I think these five are the best of the bunch. Do you have a favourite greige polish? Let me know in the comments and I promise never to say the word "greige" again!!!
