Liquid halo? Sounds like a dodgy cocktail, but nope, it's a new foundation from Smashbox. I'd kind of missed the hysteria that surrounded the likes of Make Up For Ever's HD foundation a couple of years ago, and, still, curious, was eager to give this a shot.
Liquid Halo HD Foundation* (€35.50) promises to completely even out skin with gel-covered pigments for flawless, undetectable coverage. Having recently had a lot of success with other "blurring" products, namely the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders, I was quite excited about this.
The foundation itself has a very light-gel-like finish; akin to Bourjous Healthy Mix but maybe even a bit lighter. One layer really is undetectable on the skin once blended, and it's also very easy to build the coverage up to medium without looking cakey. There is a luminosity to the formula, but not quite as pronounced as say, YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat or Rimmel Wake Me Up.
Although this foundation is bulidable, I did still need a little concealer for blemishes and redness, but that's nothing out if the ordinary! What sets this apart from many other lighter coverage foundations that I've tried is the lasting power - I found that it stayed very well on my oily skin and didn't oxidise or separate badly throughout the day. There is a decent range of colours and the shade I was sent (1) is a great match for me.
I think that this would suit almost any skin type apart from the very dry-skinned among you; I'm impressed at how it performed on my difficult skin and think it'd sit nicely on normal/slightly dry skin, too. I wasn't expecting it to last long at all, either, so plus points for that. As for the 'HD foundation' claim, I am probably the most pleased about how well it photographs - my skin does not look like this in real life! Fair play, Smashbox - this is worth investing in.
