Brand Focus: Maybelline

We try our hardest to give every brand an equal look-in on the blog. Sure, we love our luxe products but, equally we love a great quality bargain. This all-or-nothing approach to blogging can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, both as writer and reader, so I wanted to start paring things back once a month or so and focus in on one brand, highlighting the products that I really rate and that may often get forgotten about in the daily melee of new releases, current favourites and rediscoveries. The first brand I wanted to give a little love to is a drugstore brand that has really gone up in my estimations over the last few months; Maybelline.

For lips, I really love the Super Stay 14HR Lipsticks. I first found out about these when Lisa Eldridge raved about them in this video. I have since gone on to acquire two shades; Non-Stop Red and Neverending Pink. The lipsticks have a wonderfully creamy, densely pigmented formula that is smooth and velvety on the lips and lasts an adequate amount of time; maybe not the full 14 hours but, stands up well through an evening of food and drink.

Maybelline does eye products really well and caused quite a stir when they released the 24HR Colour Tattoo cream eyeshadows. I rate these as highly as my beloved MAC Paint Pots and prefer them over the lacklustre Chanel Illusion D'Ombre. My preferred shades are On and On Bronze and Permanent Taupe; perfect for everyday wear and for creating a smokey eye. Another product that often falls by the wayside in this saturated market is the famed Great Lash* mascara. This is one of the earliest make-up products I remember seeing (probably in some bad 90s TV movie!) and was one of the first mascaras I bought with my own money. It is a great, false lash effect mascara - before false lash effect mascaras even became a thing!

I've found Maybelline base products to be a bit hit and miss. You might remember that I didn't rate the original Fit Me line-up but, I am really impressed by the newest addition; Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation Stick*. This is a really nifty little gel stick foundation featuring an anti-shine core. The foundation blends beautifully and dries to a nice matte finish. I don't use this daily but, keep it in my bag for on-the-go touch-ups. The Eraser* is a product that got massively positive reviews over the pond in America and when I finally got to try it, I ended up loving it. Again, it's a great on-the-go product and I really rate it for the undereye area, especially for eradicating dark circles that aren't too pronounced.

What Maybelline products do you recommed?

  3. Maybelline is definitely my favourite 'drugstore' brand at the moment. I'm obsessed with the colour tattoos and have been alternating between On and On Bronze and Permanent Taupe all month.. I was also pleasantly surprised with how good the Erase concealer was and it's become my go-to concealer now! x
