I feel like holiday sets from drugstore brands like Maybelline are more of an American thing (they always get the best stuff!). However, over the last few years they have been creeping more and more onto the shelves which, by my reckoning, is a great opportunity to try a few products from a brand, often at a knockdown price. For 2013, Maybelline have released two sets; one for nails and one for eyes.
The Color (ugh, colour!) Show* (RRP €11.99) pack contains three trend-based shades to keep you up-to-date with the autumn/winter season. To complement the nude trend is the shade Mauve Kiss, a chic colour from the greige family of polishes that flatters everyone and looks super sophisticated. A classic red is always in season and Power Red will see you through the season. Finally, perhaps in homage to the Holiday Which Must Not Be Named, is Wine Shimmer, a beautiful oxblood glitter polish that is packed full of multicoloured micro shimmer.
We have reviewed the Color Show range in full here but, as a recap, these polishes have an amazing gel-based formula that gives streak-free, even application - for the most part. You do get a bit of a saving with this set as they retail for €4.55 each so, that's not at all bad value for three fullsize, quality polishes.
The Fabulous Eye Makeup Kit* (RRP €14.99) gives you everything you need to be feline fabulous! The kit includes the iconic Great Lash Mascara which is great for creating buildable lash drama. Also in the set is a bit of a Maybelline hero product, the Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24H. Including a brush, this gel liner has been getting rave reviews since it first launched. Drying to a glossy finish, you can control the amount of product applied to achieve a natural line or a full-on feline flick!
I love this little edit from Maybelline. It's great to see cheaper brands make themselves even better value and I think it would be great to have a few of these to hand in case you're in sudden need of a gift; housewarming, birthday, mammy-to-be, whatever! Oh, and at the risk of being lynched; they would make great stocking stuffers too!!
