Despite the fact that they make my desert island foundation, Lancôme are not a brand that I would go to regularly for colour cosmetics. Their Rouge in Love lipsticks are excellent, though, and really made me sit up and pay attention when they came out last year. Now, they've also perfected the matte liquid lipstick, so I feel like it's time for me to give Lancôme their dues and tell you all how awesome this little tube is.
Out on the 1st of October, L'Absolu Velours* (RRP €25) promises up to 8 hours of long-lasting, velvety pigment. Now, I don't know about 8 hours, but I can tell you that this is absolutely the best product of this kind that I've tried. Matte lip products of any kind can be difficult to pull off comfortably, but I genuinely find this to be easy on the lips, and I have tried a few products like this before - most recently, Hourglass' Opaque Rouge, which I have to say pales in comparison to this - it's far patchier, more drying and doesn't wear as nicely as L'Absolu Velours.
The shade I was sent (362) is one of the lightest in the line. I found it hard to capture this colour accurately on camera - it is a fairly light pink, but has a distinct brightness and coral undertone that stops it from being in any way boring. It works well for a lot of looks, feels light on, and is a joy to apply. The heart-shaped applicator, similar to those that we've seen from a lot of lip products over the last year, dispenses the perfect amount of product and is easy to use on both the top and bottom lip.
In terms of longevity, this stayed for me through eating and drinking, and I found myself re-applying more out of boredom than anything else. A second coat goes on seamlessly and won't appear grubby, as can happen with this kind of formula sometimes. Overall, this is really, really nice to use, wear and re-apply, and worth the splurge for sure.
It's rare enough that I repurchase something that I receive as a sample, but I'm already chomping at the bit to pick up more shades of this. I love the look of them all, but the bold purple and tomato red are both calling my name!
