Splurge/Save: Lip Balm

Like most beauty obsessives, I am no stranger to splurging. In fact, I probably splurge on beauty products more often than I should but, hey, everyone needs their vices, right?! However, I have noticed that sometimes it's really not necessary to spend a bundle on cosmetics. While we may like a certain product at a higher price point, it doesn't mean that a cheaper alternative isn't just as effective.

I've spoken before about my absolute love for NUXE Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm. I have gone through two jars and two tubes of the stuff which never happens. Usually I have half used tubes of lip balm loitering around my room/handbag/desk but, I can't keep myself in this stuff! However, at €12 for the pot and around €8 for the tube, it's an expensive habit and I've been trying to find another lip balm to use alongside the NUXE - I can't cut it out altogether! - that is just as nourishing and hydrating but, doesn't cost the earth.

Enter Nivea Essential Care Lip Balm. I threw this little unassuming tube into a recent Boots order to get free shipping and have been mightily impressed by it thus far  At €1.99, it is a fraction of the price of even the cheapest NUXE option which is great and, thanks to Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter, it is super moisturising. I have been keeping this in the pencil holder on my desk in work (which, along with standard stationary paraphernalia also contains cuticle cream, a nail file and a mini handcream; always be prepared!) and it has been doing the job nicely. Because it is so cheap and easily accessible, I don't mind applying it liberally and replacing it more frequently.

I will keep a NUXE balm to hand because, aside from the obvious benefits, it is my base of choice for lipstick as it has a matte finish but, as a thrifty alternative, the Nivea does perfectly. In fact, I have since bought the SPF version for my upcoming holiday!

Do you splurge or save on lip balm?

  1. I always save on lip balm, I can't bring myself to spend loads of money on something I will lose after 2 weeks.

  2. Love the Nuxe but only keep it on my bedside table, always have tubes for the handbag. LRP is my fave but will try that Nivea now!

  5. I've been wanting to buy the Nuxe one as I'm obsessed with their Reve De Miel handcream as it's amazing.

Which is best the tub or stick? Are they different.

  6. I love the Nuxe lip balm but find it a little too heavy to use in the Summer months.

  7. Nuxe is one of my all time favourites, mostly just use it at night so really should get a cheaper alternative for daytime!

  8. I adore the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm, but mainly use it at night as it's a little heavy for during the day. Like you I'm going through it at lightening speed though, so now I alternate it with Nivea milk and honey lip balm which is lovely too!

  9. Hello,
Hands, feet and lips are some of those parts and most of all; the skin on the lips is really thin and need special care. Thus there has always been an imperative quest to find the most moisturizing lip glossthat one can use at all times.
