Last May I gave the L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil a rave review. It was the first time I had tried a hair oil of any real quality and I was blown away by the results. That bottle is long since gone and I have tried a few different ones here and there but, nothing has impressed me or worked with my hair as well as the Extraordinary Oil. Happily, L'Oréal have added to the Extraordinary Oil line-up with a Mist* (€14.99) that is intended for use on fine hair.
Billed as a "lightweight, dry oil", the newest incarnation promises to absorb quickly, nourishing and protecting hair without weighing it down or leaving a greasy residue. The packaging is largely the same with the exception of the mister instead of a pump.
Despite being so devoted to the original, I actually think I prefer this lighter formula. It has all the benefits of the original (which you can read in my review linked above) but, because it is so lightweight, it is much more versatile. The two methods I have found to give the best results are by using it as an intensive hair mask; either left in my hair overnight and rinsed out the next day or applied post-washing and wrapping my hair in turban towel for 30-50 minutes before rinsing out, and also as a post-blowdrying treat to smooth baby hairs and flyaways and give my hair some shine. Assuming your hair is thick enough to absorb the product, you could probably use the original formula as a hair mask but, it is only because the new product is so light in both formula and application method that you get away with using it as finishing step.
If you have thick or very textured hair, this Mist won't work for you but, if you find that most oils are too heavy or too greasy for your hair, definitely consider this as a multi-purpose option.
