Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation

Foundation is my ultimate make-up product. I've dabbled in lighter coverage of late but am still a fan of a good old-fashioned liquid base with medium-full coverage for nights out and other "special" occasions. I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that my holy grail foundation does not exist and I am better off with a "wardrobe" (read: mountain) of bases to choose from depending on what suits the occasion and my skin on a particular day.

I'd wanted to try this foundation for a very long time after reading some rave reviews online and I finally bought it last month. It was dear at €44 but I was fairly confident that I'd love it after going through nearly two Laura Mercier Mineral Powders. The shade, Rose Ivory, is probably the lightest in Laura Mercier's range, and I can just about get away with it, so if you are below an NC15 in MAC, this will probably be too dark for you.

This is quite a thick liquid - extremely blendable, and a little goes a long way. It's very comfortable to wear but it will go cakey if you use too much, so keep blending and remember that less is definitely more with this stuff.

I love the finish. It gives plenty of coverage - I usually skip out on concealer with this unless my undereye bags are bad. It's the best "glowy-yet-full-coverage" foundation I've used and if you master applying it, it looks very natural and photographs really well - I think this would be lovely for a wedding or Debs/prom if you have combination skin. I actually had my make-up done at Laura Mercier for my own debs a few years ago and loved how my skin looked - maybe she used this!? If you like YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat but want more coverage, Silk Creme could be a safe bet.

The picture above was taken after a couple of hours' wear, so you can see some of my natural, er, glow coming through, but it hasn't oxidised or separated on my skin. I found it did get a bit slippy when I wore it for a full day at work, but that is almost unavoidable for me with a full-coverage foundation.

I love this - it could be a little more long-wearing, but probably wouldn't look as good in that case - there is always some kind of trade-off with foundations and that's why I really do think you benefit from having at least a couple in your stash to mix and match with. It also gives me an excuse to keep trying new ones... Armani's Lasting Silk is next on my wishlist!

  1. I've gone through 2 tubes of these but never worse it as an all over foundation. Mostly just in the areas that are quite red (my cheeks) I guess as a concealer. I haven't repurchased since but it was nice enough when I used it. You need Armani Lasting Silk - heaven in a bottle lol! My all-time favourite foundation! :)

  2. It looks really nice on you, this is a foundation I have been meaning to try too, but LM products don't seem to suit me or my skin :(

  4. They go lighter than rose ivory. I have soft ivory it's way lighter. I love the finish as well but boy does it transfer on me from the time I put it on. It's wont actually stay on my skin at all. I paid €48 in brown Thomas :( rip off

    1. I thought Soft Ivory was a bit too yellow for me, as anything vaguely yellow-toned makes me look ill - sorry, I should have mentioned that!

  6. Thank you for the review! I'm currently looking for a good liquid foundation (I have been using powder for a while but that's not always enough) I used a foundation finder by ps beauty (my favourite one, i always get the best recommendations from them; http://www.beauty.ps/tool/foundation) and they recommended a Laura Mercier formulation. I just wanted to do a bit of research into this.. Does this foundation has any SPF though? I'm similar colouring to you so I need to make sure I wear some.. Sam xx

    1. I don't think it does but I would never rely on the SPF of a foundation. If you're looking for a good one, the Vichy dry touch SPF50 is fab and dries matte x

  7. Literally gasped with excitement to see this review this morning! It's next on my wishlist but I need to wait til summer is over and my colour settles for a while before I invest! Excited though! :)

  10. Wow, this certainly makes your skin look flawless. I'm not a huge fan of full coverage and prefer a light foundation, but I am really intrigued by this because of all the amazing reviews!

  11. Soft Ivory is actually the palest in this foundation :) Also order it off House of Fraser! It works out to be 38 euro and they deliver for free to their Dundrum or Belfast stores
