Foundation is my ultimate make-up product. I've dabbled in lighter coverage of late but am still a fan of a good old-fashioned liquid base with medium-full coverage for nights out and other "special" occasions. I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that my holy grail foundation does not exist and I am better off with a "wardrobe" (read: mountain) of bases to choose from depending on what suits the occasion and my skin on a particular day.
I'd wanted to try this foundation for a very long time after reading some rave reviews online and I finally bought it last month. It was dear at €44 but I was fairly confident that I'd love it after going through nearly two Laura Mercier Mineral Powders. The shade, Rose Ivory, is probably the lightest in Laura Mercier's range, and I can just about get away with it, so if you are below an NC15 in MAC, this will probably be too dark for you.
This is quite a thick liquid - extremely blendable, and a little goes a long way. It's very comfortable to wear but it will go cakey if you use too much, so keep blending and remember that less is definitely more with this stuff.
I love the finish. It gives plenty of coverage - I usually skip out on concealer with this unless my undereye bags are bad. It's the best "glowy-yet-full-coverage" foundation I've used and if you master applying it, it looks very natural and photographs really well - I think this would be lovely for a wedding or Debs/prom if you have combination skin. I actually had my make-up done at Laura Mercier for my own debs a few years ago and loved how my skin looked - maybe she used this!? If you like YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat but want more coverage, Silk Creme could be a safe bet.
I love this - it could be a little more long-wearing, but probably wouldn't look as good in that case - there is always some kind of trade-off with foundations and that's why I really do think you benefit from having at least a couple in your stash to mix and match with. It also gives me an excuse to keep trying new ones... Armani's Lasting Silk is next on my wishlist!
