Now, this is a bit of a queer one, but stick with me, please! I've watched a few tag videos on this subject on YouTube and thought I'd do a blog post version. Basically, the idea of this post or video is if you were to lose all of your makeup in a fire or freak accident (tragedy, more like), what twelve items would you repurchase to reform your collection?
I think this is a great spin on 'favourites' videos, as you're basically trying to build a capsule collection of make-up out of your holy grail items. Realistically if all of my make-up disappeared tomorrow, there is no way in hell that I would be able to go out and buy all of these items at once - I'd probably go out and buy my favourite high-end foundation and then hit the likes of Rimmel, Essence and Catrice for the rest before gradually re-building my collection of favourites.
Nevertheless, this is an imaginary situation, so, let's keep that in mind! I have included items from different price brackets, but, not really to make a point, more because they genuinely happen to be my favourites. I'm still too scared to tot up how much this would all cost, though!
1. Laura Mercier Loose Mineral Powder
We've both spoken about this way too much on the blog but, in short, the best powder ever. Coverage, oil, control, non-cakey, lasts forever, and well worth the €50, I promise!
2. Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer
I usually use a couple of different concealers at any one time, but, this is the first one that I would run back to if I could choose only one. It covers everything, lasts all day and works equally well on zits as it does on the undereye area. Review here.
3. Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation
This has been my favourite foundation for years - despite trying tons over the years, I'm sure I've still bought this one nearly twenty times by now. It's a medium-to-full coverage, satin finish foundation with great oil control and amazing lasting powder.
4. Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeliners
A fairly new addition to my make-up bag but, I know that I will be buying these for a long time to come. These are perfect dupes of the waterproof pencils by NARS and Urban Decay but, at a quarter of the price. My favourite shades are the nude and black - you'll catch me using one or the other pretty much every day.
5. Essence Liquid Ink
I am an eyeliner girl through and through and rely heavily on a flick to finish off most of my make-up looks. This is the best and most easy to use liquid liner that I have ever tried - it lasts, it works, and, at about €3, it's damn cheap!
6. Dior Amber Diamond
Okay, *deep breath* this is my favourite item of make-up, ever. If that doesn't seal the deal for you, I don't know what will!! It's a finely milled highlighter that is absolutely foolproof and gives a soft-focus glow to the face like no other product I have ever used before. A total must-have in my book!
7. Inglot Freedom System Eyeshadows
I have a lot of eyeshadows, from MAC to Smashbox to MUA and everything in between, but if I had to start over for a set of eyeshadows (including a shade or two for brows), Inglot would be my first port of call. The shadows are second to none quality-wise, and the prices are brilliant and fair for what you're getting. The build-your-own palette aspect is the cherry on top! Check out my Inglot posts here, here and here.
8. MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Powder
So, you may have gathered by now that I'm a total powder addict, and this is my compact of choice for on the go. Sinéad and I have been buying this for years - I think it is great quality, worth the money, and it also fuels my make-up addiction as I can back to MAC the empties for a free lipstick!
9. Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara
I'm not much of a mascara junkie and have been known to forget to put it on! Odd, I know, but my lashes are black anyways so, I don't need it per se. I haven't yet found an absolute must-have mascara and tend to use different ones all the time, but, if I had to pick just one, this is the first to spring to mind. It's volumising, super-black and doesn't clump - great for achieving a really sixties lash look.
10. Sleek Face Form Palette
I suppose this is a bit of a supplementary product as it's a 3-in-1, but I love this and am picking it mostly for the contour powder (I also love MAC Harmony but didn't want this to be too MAC-centric) although the blush and highlight are also both fantastic - review here.
11. MAC Pinch 'o' Peach Blusher
I can't just have one blusher - it's too hard! I think this is my favourite MAC blush as it looks great on everyone and, well, it just works for me no matter what kind of make-up look I'm going for. A brilliant product that you should definitely try if you are new to MAC blushers.
12. MAC Lipsticks
Okay, so this has definitely turned into a MAC-centric post, and for that I apologise - I don't think I realised how heavily I depend on the brand! I am a lip product junkie and if I had to choose only one brand of lipstick to use for the rest of my life, it would be MAC purely for the quality and large selection of shades, finishes and textures. I have about 22 by now (the shame) and some of my favourite shades right now are Plumful, Lustering, and Ruby Woo!
Phew, that was a long one! I hope this was a helpful post - let me know what your must-haves are!
