Chanel Les 4 Ombres - Raffinement

Sometimes, despite the fact I am kind of immersed in it, make-up still comes and takes me by surprise. This happened to me recently when my boyfriend went way overboard and gave me this for Valentine's Day. (Disclaimer: I am not really a Valentine's person by nature, nor am I a boaster, I just wanted to share this awesome quad with you. I got him something nice too!)

Another nail polish release from us this week! From Maybelline comes the Color Show Nail Lacquers*, a line-up of 39 shades inspired by the runway. Each of the shades cost a pocket-friendly €4.55 and there is something for everyone with nudes, shimmers, neons and brights  in the line-up.

Citrus Scents: Current Body Products

I've said this before and I've said it again: blogging has done so much for me and brought me so many positives, but it has also turned me into a ridiculously high-maintenance person. I used to never be very fussy about shower gels and body creams, but now I love trying out new ones, and have a particular weakness for body butters. I freak out if I don't moisturise post-shower and am also extremely fussy about what kind of shower gel I use... first world problems, eh?!

Sally Hansen Sorbet Soirée Collection

We have made no secret of the fact that one of our ultimate favourite nail polish brands is Sally Hansen. Almost everything the brand puts out is top notch and the newest collection, Sorbet Soirée*, is one of the prettiest I have ever seen from the brand. The seven shade edit arrived last week (along with a box of yummy Cocoa Atelier macarons in the same shades!) and there was many squeals, oohs and ahhs as my sisters, mam and I pored over them all.

More MAC Archie's Girls: Prom Princess Blush

We've already covered the MAC Archie's Girls collection in this post, which features the samples we received from the collection. I had been seriously excited for this collection, so, being the total make-up fiend that I am, I also picked up some other bits from it myself when it launched on Friday. One of my favourite pieces is this blush, Prom Princess.

Max Factor Clump Defy

When I first started dabbling in make-up, maybe around age 11 or 12, my mam was quite particular about what passed. A clear lipgloss and a dot of concealer were about the only tools afforded to me and she was adamant that I would only wear brown mascara. "You're too fair for black," she'd say, "It'll look more natural," she assured. Ironically, she had no issues with body glitter!

As you can imagine, as an image-conscious pre-teen, I didn't want to look natural. I wanted to be tall and blonde and tanned; basically everything I wasn't. I eventually got my way and traded the brown mascara for black and I quickly grew out of that phase of wanting to be something I wasn't. But, the black mascara stayed for the next 11 years and I have never looked back...u
ntil recently that is! For you see, a delivery from Max Factor of their new Clump Defy* (€13.99) mascara catapulted me back to a time where it wasn't a party until I had my body glitter on, to a time where I hid foundation and other beauty contraband in my coat pockets, ready to slap it on as soon as I was out of my mother's eye line!

If I Lost It All Tomorrow...

Now, this is a bit of a queer one, but stick with me, please! I've watched a few tag videos on this subject on YouTube and thought I'd do a blog post version. Basically, the idea of this post or video is if you were to lose all of your makeup in a fire or freak accident (tragedy, more like), what twelve items would you repurchase to reform your collection?

I think this is a great spin on 'favourites' videos, as you're basically trying to build a capsule collection of make-up out of your holy grail items. Realistically if all of my make-up disappeared tomorrow, there is no way in hell that I would be able to go out and buy all of these items at once - I'd probably go out and buy my favourite high-end foundation and then hit the likes of Rimmel, Essence and Catrice for the rest before gradually re-building my collection of favourites.

Nevertheless, this is an imaginary situation, so, let's keep that in mind! I have included items from different price brackets, but, not really to make a point, more because they genuinely happen to be my favourites. I'm still too scared to tot up how much this would all cost, though!

La Roche-Posay Nutritic Intense

It's very much our policy here at Viva Adonis to give skincare a thorough trial of at least two weeks before we feature it in any way, shape or form. We want to be able to give you a complete picture of the product, discuss both the good and the bad and ensure that you come away from the post having a clear idea of what the purpose of the product is and if it is for you. That being said, from the first time I used La Roche-Posay's new launch, Nutritic Intense, I had itchy fingers to write this review as I knew I was going to love it. However, I drew on my patience and gave it the two week trial and I'm here today with something quite close to a rave review!

Lip Lovin' with NYC Cosmetics

In a category that also includes Essence and Catrice, NYC Cosmetics has a lot of competition as a budget brand. However, recently they have been hitting it out of the park with their new releases and two of their new lip lines in particular caught my eye and I felt they were deserving of their own post.

NEW! Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Leg Makeup

To look out the window you wouldn't believe it but, summer is just around the corner and that always means a mad dash for the false tan. As someone who struggles with getting a perfect faux glow, I have three go-to, fail safe tans for when I want to look a little less ghostly; Clarins Delicious Self Tanning Cream, Cocoa Brown 1-Hour Tan and Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs.

So, I was genuinely intrigued when a new incarnation of the cult Sally Hansen tan turned up on my doorstep. From the Airbrush Legs range comes Leg Makeup, a highly water resistant instant tan in the form of a cream. It promises all the same results that made the original such a hit including a lightweight finish, flawless and even application as well as acting as a concealer to eliminate the appearance of bumps, bruises, veins and other flaws on the skin but, is now in a no-mess, easier to control formula.

Sleek Face Form Contouring and Blush Palette

In the 'drugstore' bracket of make-up in the UK and Ireland, the Sleek Contour Kit has to have been one of the biggest hits of the last couple of years. It's a much-lauded, highly sought-after product - I remember when it first got very popular the summer before last, Sinéad and I traipsed through a zillion Superdrugs in London to find it, and to no avail! Happily the hype is justified in the case of the Contour Kit, and I use mine a lot. Well guess what, they've only gone and made it even better by adding a beautiful blush!

My Funny Valentine.

Valentine's Day has just never sat right with me. To some, it's an unwelcome reminder of singledom. To others, it's pressure to show your love more so than any other day of the year. To stationary companies, it's a well-placed marketing scam that nicely fills the gap and lines their pockets between Christmas and Easter. It's a sham as far as I am concerned and we never really partake but, that being said, I never turn down an opportunity to be festive and, so long as it doesn't cost me money, I can get on-board with sprinkling a little love here and there come February 14th!

One of the easiest ways to show your V-Day spirit is by changing up your look and using what you already have to hand. While I wouldn't really feel comfortable about strolling into work with full on pink eyeshadow and red lips, I will be rocking some day-appropriate nails. Here are some of my top nail polish picks for some lovey dovey nails!

Clarins Rouge Éclat - Spring 2013

Spring collections are the best. As a pale person, I'm not always drawn to the bronzer-centric collections of high summer, but the fresher, colourful collections of spring are usually a hit with me. Clarins Rouge Éclat is no exception as it's a fairly typical spring make-up edit with an emphasis on rosey pinks and soft, taupe smokey eyes.

We're so, so lucky to receive the amount of make-up samples that we do. With all of these beautiful pieces coming in the post, it can be very easy to ooh and ahh over the stuff a little too much, and perhaps get a bit carried away with praising how pretty everything is. With that in mind, I've trialled these products for a couple of weeks, and I'm going to do my best to break it all down for you in this post as honestly and objectively as I can. My aim is never to recommend something that isn't worth the money!

Butter London Sweetie Shop Collection

While we don't usually post on events so soon after they happen, the recent launch for Butter London's Sweet Shop collection for spring 2013 was too bloody adorable to put off! Inspired by the 1950s, Sweetie Shop includes six shades of soft and pretty pastels; think candyfloss, milkshakes and macarons!

No7 Ballerina Beauty

Everytime I look at the picture below, I can't help but think that it; the colours, the way they all mesh together in gentle harmony, looks so utterly simple and pretty. And, funnily enough, that is exactly what No7 along with Creative Director Lisa Eldridge intended the new spring collection, Ballerina Beauty, to be. Using phrases like "sophisticated elegance," "understated beauty" and "dainty glamour", Lisa Eldridge was inspired by ballerina Margot Fonteyn and the classic 60s look of softs pinks and nudes combined with killer black eyeliner.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Review

Another foundation review today - you must all think I've lost my mind buying another one, but I've actually had Double Wear Light since last November, so my thoughts on it are well overdue! I'd heard plenty of good things about this foundation before I picked it up. I'd always wanted to give Double Wear a go, but, as I'm trying to embrace a lighter-to-medium finish for foundation, I decided to go with Double Wear Light.

Preview: MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot

On Monday we brought you a sneak preview and full review of the much anticipated Archie's Girl collection from MAC. Today, we have a look at another incoming MAC collection, Pro Longwear Paint Pot (€19.00), which will hit counters this month. This eight piece collection will permanently join the existing Pro Longwear and Paint Pot lines. Two of the shades, Antique Diamond and Frozen Violet are entirely new shades while the remaining six colours have all previously been released as Paint Pots, whether in the current permanent line-up or in limited edition collections.

The Pro Longwear Paint Pots are promised to be a long-lasting and highly pigmented colour which can be used as both an eyeshadow and as an eyeshadow base. We have one of the brand new shades in the new formulation to review today. Antique Diamond* is described by MAC as "a frosted olive silver" whereas I would be more inclined to describe it as a bronzed pewter with silver shimmer. It definitely leans khaki green in the pot but, through my eyes at least, this is down to the brown and silver tones coming together.

Beauty Lessons

Blogging, reading other blogs and watching copious amounts of YouTube beauty videos has taught me a multitude over the last few years. These tips and tricks, combined with a lot of personal trial and error, have taught me plenty of lessons and rules that I stick to today, so here are four that I think most of you will find useful! Some are more 'obvious' than others but are, in my opinion at least, well worth keeping in mind day-to-day. I hope you'e all paying attention!!

Preview: MAC Archie's Girls

At least once per year, MAC releases a collaboration collection, themed around a well-known and loved brand. This year the brand has teamed up with 1940s comic book character Archie to create a two-in-one collection called Archie's Girls, featuring two of the characters from the Archie series; Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge.

This collection is divided into two parts; Betty, which is full of pretty pale, pastel shades and Veronica, the darker, more gothic colours. As you can imagine, with two halves, the collection is overwhelmingly massive; containing 6 Lipsticks, 6 Lipglasses, 4 Pearglide Intense Eyeliners, 2 Opulash mascaras, 4 Pigments, 4 Nail Lacquers, 2 Powder Blushes, 2 Pearlmatte Face Powders and 2 Eyeshadow Quads (Full product imagery and Euro prices at the end of this post). I'm still of the belief that a smaller edit of products for limited edition collections, and this goes for any brand, is more appealing to the consumer as 32 all limited edition products is a lot to take in. However, that's just one gals opinion!

While the collection doesn't hit counters until March, we did receive two products as samples ahead of time; the Caramel Sundae Eyeshadow Quad* (Betty) and the Mall Madness Lipglass* (Veronica). The quad is housed in heavy, tin packaging, quite unlike anything I've seen from MAC before, and features the Archie's Girls insignia. The Lipglass carries the picture of the girl and has a white lid. Quality-wise, I like how durable the quad feels but, I'm personally not too keen on the comic motifs, probably because I don't like comic strips!
