VivaAdonis Turns 2!

As crazy as it seems, VivaAdonis celebrates its 2nd birthday in November and what an amazing two years it has been! We just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all, readers new and old, for continuing to support, share and read our beauty blabberings! We've had some amazing opportunities as a result of this little site, such as meeting Christian Courtin Clarins and our make-up idol Lisa Eldridge, so really, thank you!

To celebrate this milestone and to show our gratitude to you all, we are holding a series of big giveaways throughout the month of November. Think all our favourite skincare, make-up, nailcare and cosmetic tools at the touch of your mouse! We hope you'll participate and enjoy the prizes and that you'll join us on the journey into our third year.

The giveaways will start tomorrow so, be sure to check-in at midday to see what's in store! As always, there are some giveaway guidelines. You can read more about these in our disclaimer here but, just to specify;

- All prizes will be shipped directly from the brand/PR company.

Again, thank you, and we hope you enjoy the giveaways!
Good Luck!

Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow ~ Taupe Brown

It's rare that I feel compelled to write about one single product. Usually it's a whole launch or a selection of the same product but, every now and then, one solitary product stands out to me so much that I have to devote a whole post to it. Today, that product is Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow in the shade Taupe Brown and this is my new beauty BFF.

Uniq One All-in-One Hair Treatment

I'm constantly trying out new hair products, but it's rare that I like something enough to state with conviction that I will be repurchasing it. Two hair products that I adore and will buy again and again are Revlon Nutri Colour Creme and Kérastase Chroma Thermique - and I think this product is about to join them in 'can't-live-without' status.

My Face #3

Sunday was a miserable, drizzly, cold and grey day so, please, excuse the quality of these photos and the state of my hair; I tried to account for the poor lighting with a colour correcting filter! However, it's been a few weeks since I last did a make-up post so, I decided to share my new go-to make-up and some new products which I have been testing out for review.

Ravishing Reds: Nail Polishes

Red nail polish has got to be one of the most classic beauty products of all time. It's been a staple for me for years - long before I became a nail polish freak, in fact, and I always, always come back to it. No matter the season or occasion, it's something that you can put on without too much thought and know that you look decent, classy and presentable, although the conservative 'lady' in me probably wouldn't show up to a job interview sporting scarlet talons!

There are an array of reds to choose from - if you thought red was just one colour, then think again! I have a selection of dark reds, orange reds, fire engine reds and 'blue' reds to do a little show and tell on if you're interested!

L-R: OPI Red Lights Ahead...Where? Essie Russian Roulette, Lancome Rouge in Love 179M, Sally Hansen All Fired Up, Avon Cherry Jubilee, Avon Real Red, Avon Red Reveal.

4: Current Favourites

It's been a good few month since I last updated all you lovely people on what I'm currently lovely so, I thought I would do a quick round-up as we come to the end of yet another month! I've sort of been clinging on to the last slivers of summertime which explains the light and bright trend in this post but, I'm slowly starting to embrace the autumn and winter and all the good beauty booty they have to offer!

Take Three: Cleansers

Surprisingly enough for me, I haven't really written about skincare in a while. I kind of know what I like and what suits me at this stage when it comes to most skin products - or at least I like to think I do! However, for a good while now, I've been on the hunt for my holy grail cleanser.

I have a few prerequisites; it must be gentle, it must not smell weird, and it must get all or at least most of my makeup off in one go. In the past, I've adored Cetaphil and also Nuxe Reve de Miel cleanser. I would still recommend both and would buy them again, but my quest is ongoing, as is my thirst for shiny new products!

This post features three soapless cleansers that I've been using on and off over the last few months. They're all pretty good but I have one very firm favourite - keep reading to find out more!

Guest Post: Touch of Silver

I have a bit of a different post for you today, as it's about something that neither myself nor Sinéad were able to review, but still something that loads of you will be interested in - products for blonde hair! Read on to see how my friend Aoife got on with products from the Touch of Silver line.

Max Factor Eye Brightening Volumising Mascara

I'm a wee bit of a beauty skeptic. All these brands come out with all these new products boasting all these different claims and, well, most of the time they don't deliver. So, when a trio of Max Factor's new Eye Brightening Volumising Mascara* (RRP €8.99) arrived with me, I was instantly wary of it. Eye colour enhancing products are nothing new to the market; L'Oreal released their Luminizer Volume Million Lashes and Superliners this time last year, so, I wasn't really convinced that Max Factor could bring anything new to the table.

What I'm Wearing #3: Autumn Face

Beauty blogs are awash right now with 'autumn edits' for lips, cheeks and eyes, and today, I'm totally hopping on the bandwagon. Like pretty much everyone, I'm loving the change of season - mainly because it's a great excuse to go shopping for new leather boots, wool coats and cosy, fluffy cardigans. In addition to the bit of shopping I've been doing, I've also been upgrading my make-up by wearing warmer, deeper shades. I've also been embracing the pale even more than usual, by ditching the bronzer for just a tiny bit of contour and a soft pink shade of blush.

What I'm Wearing:

The Body Shop Pore Minimiser* (review here)

No7 Stay Perfect Foundation in Calico*
Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural powder in Light
MAC Harmony blush (contour)
TheBalm DownBoy blush

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Pink Gold

Urban Decay Naked and Buck (crease)
Urban Decay Sin (highlight)
Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara*
Essence Gel Eyeliner
Benefit BadGal Waterproof Eyeliner in Grey*

MAC Brow Pencil in Spiked

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Crush

Bumper Sunday Pamper Routine

Since returning from holidays, everything has been full speed ahead in my life. While I'm not complaining, I am using this by way of explanation that it took me three full weeks to realise that every inch of my skin bar my face was totally dehydrated and dry. Honestly, I've never seen it so parched and the fact that it took me such a lengthy amount of time to realise it led to me carving out a whole afternoon of pampering a couple of weeks ago to give my skin some much-needed TLC as well as completing my usual facial/nails/hair routine.

October 14, 2012

How pretty are these three bottles? I never thought I'd end up layering three nail polishes, but yes, I did - and I loved the results. To start with, early this week I applied Zoya Mia* - this was my first experience with a Zoya polish and, although I'd heard nothing but good things, I was still really, really impressed.  The swatches below are just one coat, which makes this easily one of the most opaque polishes I've ever tried - especially for a nude! I love this alone - it's a really flattering, minimalist shade, and it lasted so well on me. Also, I love how every Zoya polish has a girl's name!

Favourite Autumnal Nail Polishes

Nail polish is a really quick, easy and cost-effective way to transition your look from summer to autumn. I was sifting through my, admittedly, rather large nail polish collection late last week and I found myself getting excited that I could break out some of my darker, deeper, more sultry shades instead of the pastels and brights that have adorned my fingertips all summer. As you can probably see, I favour metallics, berry and multichromatic shades for the autumn and, err, seem to have a bit of a penchant for purple! Also, apologies that these are swatched on a nail wheel. My own nails are in bits and not fit to be photographed and, well, when there are this many shades to display, a nail wheel seems easiest!

Essie Topless and Barefoot ~ I missed out on this polish when it was first released and I never really got over the fact. So, when I popped into a random pharmacy on Lexington Ave in New York and saw a lone bottle sitting on a shelf, I snapped it up and paid quicker than you can say "It was meant to be!". The reason I particularly love this shade for autumn is that, while it's a nude, it's a distinctly brown-toned nude that works well with my skintone and looks warm on the fingers instead of mannequin-like.

Zoya Jem* ~ I only recently posted on this absolutely beauty of a polish so, I won't bang on too much here. Suffice to say, the multichromatic formula covers all the autumnal shades; green, gold, red, purple, and I just can't get enough of it. (Review here)

Sally Hansen Cha Cha Cherry* ~ Again, this polish has already featured on the blog and it's reappearing for very good reason. This is the world's most perfect magenta shade with an absolutely stellar cream formula. I have worn this on and off since I got it but, I think it's got more of an autumnal hue off it than summer.

Ciaté Fade to Greige*~ What would a nail polish favourites post be from me without a muddy greige shade in the mix? I have more of these colours in my collection than I care to count and I had a hard time picking my favourite for this post. Ciaté X is the newest to my collection so, I felt it deserved a first outing. These kinds of brown/taupe/grey colours will take you anywhere and look so chic and clean on the hands and I think everyone needs at least one in their arsenal! Some of my other favourites include Sally Hansen Commander in Chic, Sally Hansen Greige Gardens and Chanel Particuliére.

Avon Decadence* ~ Would you just look at this shade? It's a true Barney purple with blue duochrome and I could just twirl the bottle around in my fingers, admiring the different facets of colour for hours on end! If you like these complex shades, the Avon Nailwear Pro+ line is definitely worth checking out for autumn-appropriate colours.

Chanel Peridot ~ This little bottle had the beauty world in a tizzy last year when it launched and I still have a major soft spot for this gold-green foil-finish polish. If you want to get deep about it, it is autumn personified; like the leaves changing from green to gold but, really, it's just a beautiful, eye-catching shade. There have been many dupes of this over the past 12 months but, only one has come close to matching the beauty of Peridot which I will be filling you in on next week in case you missed out on the release last year.

NYC Backstage Brown* ~ I'm writing this post beside a window and, as I look out, I see so many trees covered in leaves of this exact shade. I love this burnt orange/gold/bronze colour for this time of year and always incorporate it into my eyeshadow and accessories so, this cheap-as-chips nail colour really rounds out the collection and draws my look together.

Essie Sew Psyched ~A bit of a wildcard here but, nothing wrong with that! This khaki shade is one of the few greens I like on my nails and, while not traditionally autumnal, I only ever find myself reaching for it when the seasons change so, I feel justified in including it in here!

So, they are the polishes I've been reaching for over the last month or so. I'd love to hear your favourite shades and types of colours!

Thanks For Your Help!

Last week we posted a link to a survey which we hoped would yield some guidance on what you, the readers, want from our blog. We expected it to generate maybe 20 or 30 responses when, in actual fact, almost 130 of you have completed it in full which is absolutely amazing! So, genuinely, thank you very, very much!

We got some amazing feedback which we will be working to implement and take on-board over the coming months. What we were really surprised to see was the variation in what  readers like and look for from a beauty blog. Some people love current favourites posts while others absolutely hate them, some people can't stand face and nail-of-the-day style posts whereas the rest ask for them to be a more regular feature. While we can't cater to solely to one individual preference, we will continue to write a wide variety of posts so that there is sure to be something for everyone on the site!

Thank you once again for the kind words, constructive criticism and well thought-out answers, we gleaned so much more from that little survey than we ever imagined we would and we will start putting your ideas and suggestions into action! As promised, one of the 130 people who completed the survey would win a full Sleek 2012 Ltd. Collection from so, without further ado, the winner is...Aoife!

Congratulations Aoife, we've emailed you to get your address and Beauty Emporium will have your prize out to you asap!

Lady Gaga Fame Eau de Parfum

For the most part, I don't really buy into celebrity fragrances. To me, they seem to be little more than a money-making racket and you can bet your bottom dollar that Beyoncé, Britney, Mariah et al don't douse themselves in their name-bearing scents before hopping on their private jets and speedboats so, that whole "Smell like your favourite celebrity," marketing ploy doesn't really fly with me.

That being said, if a perfume smells nice, I don't care who's face and name is on the box. If I like it, I'll wear it.  When a bottle of Lady Gaga Fame* landed with me early last week, I was apprehensive to say the least. This fragrance has been in the making for what seems like years and after hearing that it contained some less-than-appealing ingredients, I wasn't convinced I even wanted to take it out of the box. However, in the name of the blog, I ripped open the cardboard and popped the cap off. The things I do for you guys...!

Current Body Products

Body products = boring products, right?! For a cosmetic junkie like myself, not so much, although I'd much rather but a lipstick than a body lotion! That said, I do enjoy slathering myself in a nice body moisturiser (be it a body butter, lotion or oil) post-shower, hopping into bed and waking up with baby-soft skin. I usually have a good few body products on the go at once, and these are my current little group of goodies that I've had on rotation - read on for four quick-fire reviews!

How To: Volumised Hair (With NO Teasing!)

For as long as I can remember I have had the straightest of straight hair. It does hold a curl when topped off with a mountain of hairspray but, I have always battled with giving it volume and body. I do have a teasing brush but, after seeing how that broke and damaged the hair around the crown of my head, I decided to set out and see what products would work for giving my hair the lift it so desperately needs.

MAC Buys: Love Goddess & Patina

I have to admit, as much as I can get sick of their constant ''new'' collections, MAC is just a brand that I will always use and come back to over and over again. Their lipsticks are second to none, and seeing as Sinéad is a long-term fan, I kind of have my own personal MAC advisor! We were in Dundrum during the week for an event and went into MAC quickly on the way home, as Sinéad had stuff to back to MAC and we both wanted to check out the Marilyn Monroe collection.
I was actually quite restrained, and definitely could have bought more. However, given the amount of red and pink lipsticks I own at this stage, it would have been pretty much ridiculous for me to buy more than one from the collection, so I just stuck to one and also got an eyeshadow that I'd been wanting for a very long time.

Your Guide to Lush Christmas 2012!

Every year, Lush releases a whopping great Christmas collection. There are always gift boxes to suit every budget as well as some new and limited edition single products. Having been to Lush's Dublin HQ and seen the entire collection for Christmas 2012, we know it can be quite overwhelming to be confronted with so many different combinations and varieties of products. So, this year we've decided to give you a pretty comprehensive overview of the collection so you can see at-a-glance what's in store for this festive season. We've included links to the products online so that you can read up on ingredients if that's where your interests lie as well as all the prices in euro so you can plan and budget before you take a trip to your nearest Lush shop - think of this as your guide to Lush Christmas 2012!

TheBalm Cabana Boy Blush

It's rare that I rummage through my stash and find something that I'd totally forgotten about. No matter how disorganised or messy I get, I have a mental catalogue of all my make-up and I try to use something different every day, be it an eyeshadow, mascara or blush. Sadly, though, the odd thing is bound to get left behind! I found this stuck at the back of a drawer last week, and I've been using it non-stop ever since.

Side note: this is the second post we have up about blusher on the blog this week. I apologise if this seems like overload, but, well, we love blusher! Some may think that one is enough, but honestly, I feel that blush is one of the most transformative elements of make-up. Different shades can do different things to your face; something like MAC Harmony will, if used correctly, contour and chisel, NARS Deep Throat will make you look awake and radiant, and this blush will give a really natural, berry-toned flush which is really gorgeous and so appropriate for autumn and winter.

We're open to all feedback, both positive and negative but, please try to keep it constructive so we can actually consider and implement your suggestions!

And, don't think we're asking you to do this out of the goodness of your heart! No, no!

Beauty Buys

I've mentioned before how I try to do a lot of my beauty shopping online. Feel Unique, Lookfantastic and House of Fraser are the main targets as I find that, even with the conversion rate, the products are much better value and my money goes a lot further. All three sites are also famed for having awesome and frequent sales and, last week, House of Fraser had one of their amazing Brand Events where there is 25% off virtually everything online.

I had a few things on my wishlist that I had almost bought the week before but, thanks to a hectic schedule and a forgetful mind, I managed to snag them with a cushy little discount. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I rarely do "hauls" any more as I know some people get annoyed by them but, I have plans to review and/or feature all of these products in the near future so, I just wanted to give a brief intro to them. Also, I wanted to use this post to tell you that it is well worth liking the House of Fraser Facebook page and signing up for their emails as you'll get prior notice of all Brand Events and sales!

Two Brilliant Bases

I know that some people are of the opinion that primers and make-up bases are either pointless or optional, but at this stage, primer is a step that has been firmly established in my daily make-up routine - the only exception being if I am wearing a BB cream that day. I love smooth, silicone-y bases that fill in all the mini-potholes in my face to create a really even canvas for foundation. If you're into the same kind of thing, and/or have an uneven or oily skin texture, keep reading, as these primers have been my two favourites of late!

Tarte Amazonian Clay 24H Blush - Exposed

If you saw my post on the make-up I bought in New York, you'll know that the only item that I actually set out on getting was the Tarte Amazonian Clay 24H Blush in Exposed. These blushes, and this shade in particular, have achieved something of a cult status in the beauty community in recent months and, I couldn't wait to see if they lived up to the hype!

One of our readers asked if I could review the blush separately as she was similarly fair to me and worried that the neutral, brown-toned pink shade would be too muddy on her skin. Well, as always, ask and you shall receive! Here's my in-depth review of Tarte's Exposed!

My Top 5 Inglot Eyeshadows

This post has been a long time in the making. I got hooked on Inglot eyeshadows over a year ago (you can see previous posts about my palettes here, here and here), and have since managed to accumulate er, four palettes. Seeing as I have so many Inglot eyeshadows, I thought it might be a good idea to pick out my top five, stick them in a palette and tell you all about them!

My Face #2

Firstly, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the lovely comments and feedback on last week's My Face post. I really wasn't sure if I wanted to do these types of posts but, I had such fun playing around with my camera and putting the post together that I've decided to try and do them more often! This past weekend was rather dull and grey and I was feeling a bit bored and demotivated so, I decided to play around with some of the more autumnal shades in my collection and make myself feel a bit more alive!
