Winter Perfume Favourites

075

After a fairly mild start to the season, it's absolutely freezing in Dublin right now, and it's more obvious than ever that winter has definitely descended! We're keeping it pretty seasonal and festive on the blog this week and, in that spirit, I've three perfumes to talk about today that I've been loving and would make brilliant gifts this Christmas!

Roger & Gallet Rose Imaginaire* has been much-hyped on Irish blogs of late, and I promise you, it it is worth talking about. It's a really universal scent, suitable for any age or taste - I really can't imagine anyone hating this. It's a lovely, light, inoffensive scent for daytime that really seems to come into its own in the crisp winter air. It is important to note that this is a fresh fragrant water, so it is a little weaker than some EDTs. However, you're getting 100ml in the bottle, so it's a great one to have in your handbag.

The premise of this fragrance is that it is meant to evoke the scent of a rose without actually containing any rose. It definitely does just that, and also makes for a much more interesting fragrance as you get hits of fruits and florals along the way - the mandarin and jasmine stand out the most to me. I absolutely love this scent, and I think it'd make a brilliant gift for your sister, auntie, mam or granny!

Available from pharmacies at €39.95 for 100ml.

Balmain Ivoire is a scent that I was totally unaware of until I received it at a fragrance event a while back. This scent was originally released at the end of the seventies, but it's recently been reworked for 2012. I can't tell you how much I love this, and it's an excellent quality eau de parfum - one or two spritzes is plenty and it lasts for hours. If I am to describe how this smells right off the bat, it's cloying, refreshing, yet somehow creamy, and draws you back in for more.

It reminds me of freshly laundered knitwear (in a very posh way), in that it's a really cosy, warm scent - perfect for this time of year. The only scent I can think of that bears much similarity to this one would be the original Chloé, so if you're a fan of that, definitely give this a shot. If your budget can stretch this far, it'd also make a great gift for the woman who has everything (don't we all know one?!) as it's fairly unusual!

Available from House of Fraser and Debenhams: €39 for 30ml, €55 for 50ml and €80 for 100ml.

Finally, I've a long-time favourite - Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb. A lot of people really love this scent, which makes it a pretty safe, if very expensive, gift idea. My boyfriend brought this home for me from a recent trip to the States, and it was only when I smelled it again that I remembered just how gorgeous it is.

The grenade-style bottle is adorable and the scent is out of this world - strong, sweet and floral with a grown-up edge. I am not a lover of sweet perfumes, but this is mature enough for me to love. It's a high quality eau de parfum that lasts hours on me, so the small bottle should see me through for a very long time!

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb is 10% off right now at Debenhams online: €77.31 for 50 ml and €97.43 for 100ml.

  2. I don't really make the distinction between summer and winter fragrances really. In general I really like Escada fragrances.

  5. I’m really familiar with Ivoire Balman; it is almost continually lasting on my skin also a beautiful, foamy, soft fragrance that I've exposed.
