Take Three: Lip Balms

Soap and Glory A Great Kisser, La Roche-Posay Nutritic, Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm

Lip balm is both an essential and an addiction for me. I keep about five or six in a little jewellery box beside my bed, and always have one or two on the go with me in my handbag. Overkill, I know, but at least there's no danger of me ever running out! In general the skin on my lips is quite well behaved - not too dehydrated or flaky, and I never have a problem wearing strong and/or matte lipsticks for long periods of time. I honestly don't know if that is just the way my lips are, or if it's down to the amount of balm I use.

In any case, we all need a good lip balm. Some of my all-time favourites are Carmex, Blistex MedPlus and Figs and Rouge - I've also very recently hopped on the Korres Lip Butter bandwagon - more on that soon! Here I'm going to review three other balms that I've been sent and have been using on and off over the last couple of months.

First up is Soap and Glory's A Great Kisser* balm. This is available in a few different flavours, I have the coconut one. It both smells and tastes super-sweet but I like it! It's quite gloopy - similar in texture to Vaseline - and applies like a gloss leaving a shiny finish. I really like it over a lip tint during the day - if you like your balm with a bit of gloss and oomph, this is for you. It does hydrate my lips as well, by the way!

La Roche-Posay Nutritic* is a very standard-looking stick balm. I've learned not to judge the super-plain packaging of this brand, though, as the product inside is usually fantastic. This stuff is unscented and quite hard in texture, much like Labello or similar. It's still a great balm though, really moisturising and a good one to slap on at night. It'd also be good for wintertime, or if you are a runner or are outdoors a lot. The tube's really handy, my only complaint is that it's not very malleable and you only get a thin coating of it on your lips. However, this is just personal preference, really - I love smothering my lips in balm, but a thin layer of this is all you need! Love it.

Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm* is my very favourite type of balm. It's thick, minty and makes my lips tingle. I love this as you really feel like the product is working! I've been obsessed with this stuff and I think I like it more than Carmex - that's a big statement for me. It's really hydrating and if I smear this on before bed, I wake up with super-soft, nourished lips. Can't recommend it enough!

What's your favourite lip balm?

  1. I don't think I actually own any uncoloured balms, for shame! I just use my Body Shop ones, even if it gives me a nice little colour before bed:) The Burts Bees one sounds lovely though!
