Super Scrubs

I love a good scrub! Exfoliating is a bit of a weird hobby for me; I'm a bit too obsessed with having super-smooth skin and I love a good, grainy exfoliator, whether it's for the face or the body. These are four that I've had on rotation for the last while and have really been loving!

The first one is a really cool, multi-purpose product. Vichy Normaderm 3 in 1* claims to be a cleanser, exfoliator and face mask all in one. Big of a big ask, in my book! I really like it and have taken to using it mostly as a scrub. I prefer to use other products to remove my makeup (see my recent skincare post for more on that), so, mostly I've been using this to exfoliate quickly in the morning and the odd time as a mask. It does a really great job at both, and I absolutely love it. In my experience, the Normaderm line has been a bit hit and miss (I love the day cream but hate the night one, for example), but this is definitely a standout product from the range. It seems to be keeping my skin clear, you only need a small amount at a time and it's great value at €13.25 for 125ml.

Another facial scrub that I adore is Lush's Ocean Salt. I bought this a while back and only use it about once a week or so, it's a very grainy, harsh exfoliant that I keep for the shower, as it is a bit messy to use. So messy, in fact, that I've gotten it into my mouth a couple of times and, well, it doesn't taste bad!! Ocean Salt is a super-zingy and refreshing to use with ingredients such as lime, sea salt and grapefruit - perfect for early mornings! It leaves my skin really soft and 'new'-looking, but I wouldn't recommend it if your skin is very sensitive. You can use this on your face and/or body, and it also comes in a bigger tub to the one I have, which I'll probably pick up when this one is used up.

Now, on to body scrubs. Pixy Natural appears to be Ireland's answer to Lush, and these Lime Body Scrub Cubes* are something special! These are solid cubes that you run over your skin in the shower for a brillant, refreshing scrub that won't strip or dry out the skin. I love these for getting rid of stubborn patches of fake tan - if you need to do a good all-over scub, you'll need two of them. You get six in a pack, but they're only €4.99 and this is an Irish enterprise, which we all love to support, right?! The only gripe I have about these is the packaging. The plastic bag they come in isn't great for storing them, and I'd love if Pixy came out with their own storage tins like Lush have. You can view a list of Irish stockists of Pixy here and they also sell online. I really like this stuff and can't wait to see what other gems the company come up with!

Another slightly more traditional product that I'm obsessed with is The Body Shop Vineyard Peach Body Scrub*. This is a creamy, rich scrub which exfoliates and seems to seal in moisture simultaneously. Impressive or what?! The scent is absolutely divine and really does smell like fresh peaches - and cream! The packaging is gorgeous, and a tub of this will last a good while. It's not the most abrasive scrub I've tried, but that isn't always a bad thing - I'd recommend this if you have slightly sensitive skin. I hope The Body Shop keep bringing out peachy stuff, because I'm hooked!

What's your favourite exfoliator?

  1. Ooh I love this post, I've really gotten into scrubs recently for both my face and body. For my face I use Amie's Face Polish, which I got for a stupidly cheap 10p in Superdrug once! I wish I'd bought more now as they had a number.of them. It's really lovely though. I also use Sanctuary's Pore Refining scrub. For my body I have Palmer's Cocoa Butter scrub. This is the scrub that turned me on to them so much. It's very thick, so thick it's stiff and very creamy, but areally great scrub too! I'm desperately trying to use it up so I can buy more :D
