Having a pallor that is somewhat akin to freshly fallen snow, it takes a lot of effort on my part to get any kind of golden glow. Add that to the fact that we live in a perpetually grey climate, that glow is almost always faux. So, what's a gal to do when she doesn't have the energy to glove up and slather on the good stuff? Why, she's just gotta whip out her favourite bronzing product of course!
Now, I don't know whether it is because I am such a ghost or because I have an
Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel ~ ... or whatever this bloody product is called now! Regardless of the fact that it has had more names than Prince, this is one of those few beauty products that wholly deserves all of the hype it gets. A matte bronze mousse that can be used as an all-over base if you have a darker skintone or as a bronzer for the rest of us, Soleil Tan de Chanel is kick ass at giving skin a really natural, healthy glow. Used sparingly with a stipping brush for a flawless finish, this is possibly the only bronzer you need. Ever.
MAC Bronzing Powder Bronze ~ My first ever bronzer was a MAC Bronzing Powder and they still top my list of favourite powder bronzers. This shade is almost entirely matte but, with just the subtlest of satin sheens when applied to the skin. For a pressed powder, these bronzers are all incredibly finely milled, even those with more obvious shimmer, and give my skin a really light glow that isn't orange or muddy, even when I'm super pale!
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Cheeky Bronze ~ For whatever reason, this is my most used bronzer ever. It's ever-so-slightly cool in tone which makes it perfect for year-round wear while the antique gold glitter veining gives an amazing luminescence to the skin which is really flattering. This looks particularly amazing when skin has some natural colour and, so, is perfect for the summertime!
NARS Laguna ~ This is one of those famed bronzers that every beauty blogger and their mother seems to have. As with all hyped up, over-exposed products, I was initially underwhelmed. It seemed a bit gritty in texture and a bit muddy on the skin. However, I soon learnt that the beauty of this product lies in the application; take a big, fluffy brush and dust it really lightly around your hairline, temples and jawline (basically the perimeter of your face) and, hey presto, you look like you've just spent a beautiful sunny day outdoors!
Clarins Bronzing Duo Medium ~ Now. Where to begin with this beauty, the newest addition to my bronzing family and the one I reach for daily at the moment. There is nothing much remarkable to say about this but, in a way, that's what makes it so special! It looks so pretty in the pan and, on the skin it gives such a flattering sheen, that I just can't get enough of it and I can see it being my go-to bronzer for the summer months!
Swatches (L-R): Chanel, MAC, MAC, NARS, Clarins
So, as you probably gleaned from the above, I aim to look glowy and just generally healthy during the summer. I know I'm never going to have a deep mahogany tan and I also know I don't look like I should have one either so, I just use products in a way which looks natural during the summer! Any bronzer recommendations, pass them this way!
