Contingency Plan.
I'm very fortunate that I get to attend a lot of events through this here blog. Given that I work during the day, I often find myself literally sprinting through the streets of Dublin after work so as not to be late. I can't abide being late!
However, more than once I have found myself up the creek without a paddle or, in beauty terms, en route to a launch with no real make-up in my bag. This situation causes my heart to race, my pulse to quicken and sweat to dampen my brow. It definitely takes some of the enjoyment out of a fun event when I know I look tired and bedraggled!
The above scenario has played out one time too many at this point so, I have put a contingency plan in place to avoid it ever happening again. My not-so-genius-or-inventive plan is to keep a well-stocked, streamlined bag of necessities in my handbag at all times. Not only will this enable me to inject a bit of lustre into my generally lacklustre post-work appearance but, it also means I'm covered in the event of something entirely catastrophic, like, say, a blister or a paper cut, happening on a normal day.
The grey mesh pouch is from Muji (my newest obsession) and is the perfect size for keeping all my essentials in one place instead of rolling around the bottom of my bag. As you can see from the picture above, I keep anything and everything, bar foundation and powder, that I may need in a make-up emergency. I'm not going to list everything that's in the pouch but, the likes of the Burt's Bees Hand Salve is brilliant as a multi-purpose product for tackling dry spots while the mini MAC Fix+ is great for reviving tired skin, removing powdery residue and just generally refreshing how I look and feel.
As you can see, everything fits comfortably into the nifty pouch and I can easily see what's inside - definitely beats frantically rummaging in the depths of my bag!
P.S. I was having fun playing around with photo shapes and filters - hope you don't mind!

i love your contingency plan! i also share the same feeling. sometimes i panic bec i am to attend an event so un-beauty blogger like! and its such a shame to not dress the part. i mean, sometimes, an occasion really calls for some props :D -Loving Sunshine
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly it!
DeleteWhat started out as a few esstentials for me has turned into an explosion of products that leads to me not being able to close my makeup bag... Thanks to this post I will have to try and cultivate the capsule 'essentials/emergency' bag :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what ended up happening to me! I would add to my bag daily until there was far too much in it and then clear it all out and find myself stuck when I most needed something!
DeleteThe stuff i keep in my small makeup bag never matches what i have on my face...:(
ReplyDeleteThat's why I don't tend to keep base products. My foundation usually lasts all day so, I can just refresh with the Fix+ and concealer and then jazz up my lips or eyes!
DeleteNice stash to have on hand for all event related emergencies and the mini deo's from Boots are always a must:)
ReplyDeleteThanks! They are really handy!
DeleteI also keep a bag in my desk at work, as I oftentimes have events to attend (blog or jobwise) in the evening. I really like the tip about Burt's Bee balm, I might add it to my stash!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great little product. I'm not super keen on it as a hand balm as it's a bit greasy but, for dry bits its a godsend!
DeleteThe thing I like better about this post is how compact your bag became in the end! I can never do the same to mine!

It holds a lot more than it looks like it should!
DeleteBrilliant idea, nice and neat also.
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie, keeps everything in check!
DeleteGreat idea :) I have something similar in my handbag, so that I'm always prepared on the go! xo
ReplyDeleteIt's super handy!
DeleteI need one of these, I just throw everything in my handbag dashing out the door and takes me ages to find stuff during the day. I'm surprised all your stuff fits into that small bag xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! Really love Muji for this kind of stuff!
DeleteHow much is the little mac fix plus??
