One of the biggest benefits of being a beauty blogger is being constantly introduced to brands that I may have previously been closed off to. Clarins is one such brand. I always associated it with older women, perhaps because my mam, aunties and granny all use it but, ever since the brand made contact in the early days of the blog, it has consistently topped my list of all-round amazing brands.
A few of my current favourite products (which I must do an updated post on soon!) are from the French cosmetics house and one of these is the Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch base; a "second skin" like product that aims to smooth and mask fine lines, pores and wrinkles and create an overall flawless surface on which to apply foundation.
The silicone-based primer makes skin feel silky to the touch and smooths over any imperfections, giving the appearance of flawless skin. Acacia Micro-Pearls which, I gather, are unique to the Instant Beauty range, work to fill in wrinkles and fine lines by absorbing the skins moisture and increasing in size. Think Polyfilla for your face!
In the jar (a heavy red glass beauty!), the product is a milky pink concoction with the consistency of, I want to say, cupcake frosting! It's a very thick, opaque product and a little goes a long way on the face so, be sparing. It dries clear with an almost matte finish, adding to the smoothing and perfecting nature of the product.
If you hate products that are silicone-heavy then, this is not for you. If, however, you are like me and enter a quasi state of euphoria at the faux-perfect skin that silicone creates, then you'll be hard pushed to find a better one than Clarins Instant Smooth. Benefit's The Porefessional is similar in consistency but, where Benefit wins in that it's offering is slightly tinted, Clarins ultimately pips it to the post with overall perfecting results. Clarins own cult favourite Beauty Flash Balm is less potent and more creamy in texture and, while a stand-out favourite of many a beauty junkie, I'm not all that fond of it. No, Instant Smooth is definitely the primer for me!
