I've Been Very Loyal Lately...

I've been a bit of a loyalist lately. No, I wasn't making any kind of political statement but, for the past week-and-a-half or so, I have been wholly loyal to one make-up brand and one make-up brand only.

That may not seem like such an incredible feat to anyone who isn't cosmetic obsessed but, when you have a ridiculous amount of unnecessary make-up, quite often you will use a myriad of different brands to complete your face. However, recently, my go-to daytime make-up has all come courtesy of one brand; Benefit.

I've mentioned before that I was never the biggest Benefit fan. I wasn't sucked in by their quirky aesthetic and their sky-high prices coupled with a questionable conversion rate were decidedly off-putting. However, over the months of writing this blog, I have come to have an appreciation for the products themselves. Yes, I still think they are overpriced but, at least now I can recommend them for their quality, cost aside.

I think this mini-obsession started when I got Benefit Hervana in a goody bag at an event. I all but wrote an ode to that product so, if you're interested, you can go grab a cuppa and settle down for a long read! I was using this blush everyday for my work make-up, loving the fresh flush and glowy finish it gave to my skin and then, in the post, arrived another absolute gem; Benefit Hello Flawless Oxegen WOW (€35.00) liquid foundation.

To say this is my perfect foundation formula would be an understatement.  It is sheer-medium in coverage, gives skin a satin sheen and remains dewy throughout the day. I regularly forgo using powder with this (I still love you MSFN, I promise...), preferring to opt for the almost mannequin-esque finish this gives my face. I love that it is SPF 25 with a PA+++ rating* as I, ahem, never wear SPF. Awkward silence...

I genuinely adore this foundation but, my only qualm would be the shade selection. There are only 9 shades and I feel like they could have been better spread across the skintone spectrum. I got colour-matched to one of the palest shades, Pure for Sure Ivory (the other is Believe in Me Ivory) and, sadly, it's still a touch too dark on me. I have to use just the tiniest amount and even then only around the centre of my face; if it goes near my jawline, my neck and décolletage looks ghostly pale. However, I don't mind the extra care I have to give to application because I do love it that much! Oof that turned into a bit of a Hello Flawless Oxegen Wow review but, now you know how I like it (I'm normal skinned for the most part by the way!)!

Moving swiftly onwards before this post becomes a thesis, under the foundation I have been loving the Porefessional (€34.00) as a base/primer. There are literally 90 million reviews of this online so, I won't bore you with another except to say that this my minimises pores, evens my skintone and texture and contributes to that overall mannequin-type finish I have been loving. Oh, and you get a free sample with HFOW now so, if you're curious about it and are purchasing the foundation anyway, you'll now be able to try before you buy!

Blush everyday has been the aforementioned Hervana (€33.50) and I am still so much in love with this it kind of scares me! I never stay this attached to and enamoured by a product for so long but, long may this love affair continue!

To highlight on the day's I'm not too bleary-eyed to remember, I'm using the Watt's Up? (€34.50) cream stick highlighter which I reviewed at length when it was released last year.

For eyes,  I go back to basics during the week, opting for a just a few sweeps of mascara. At the moment, I'm alternating between They're Real! (€24.50) and Avon SuperExtend Extreme but, suffice to say, They're Real! is mine and, I think, Dee's ultimate mascara!

Finally, my brows. I am a bit of a brow product whore in that I have a zillion products and chop and change between them constantly. Most workday's, I will use the Cosmetics Á La Carte Brow Pen but, I recently dug out my Benefit Silky Eyeshadow in Moody and have been loving it when used with my MAC 263 angled brush.

So, that's it for my Bene-face! I don't wear lip products on a daily basis, despite being totally obsessed with them and I have this routine down to a fine 8 minutes before I'm out the door to work!

*FYI : PA+++ is the highest rating of UVA protection a product can have. SPF is for UVB protection. I can do a more detailed post on sun-protection if anyone would like me to. Just let me know in the comments!

  5. Like you the lightest shade of the foundation is still a little dark for me which is a real pity! I love Hervana, wearing it almost every day and I'm dying to buy They're Real just don't have the money at the mo'!

  6. Dying to try out the HFOW foundation, I am quite pale so kind of weary about it. I definitely want the Hervana blush though! Swatched it & absolutely love it! :)

  8. I find that I don't use my benefit products much just because of the packaging! The blushes always end up in a drawer because they don't fit nicely into the tiny countertop box that all my mac stuff in the palettes does. I think I'll need to depot them but it looks difficult!
Would love to try out the foundation but just got mac matchmaster in the lightest shade and it is actually pale enough for me so I'll stick to it for a while at least.
Please do a post on suncare, I had no idea that SPF only referred to one thing. Why must everything be so complicated!?

  9. I love the benefit boxed blushers! Although they are very pricey I have loads of them which I use all the time and have yet to hit pan on. They really do last! Dying to try Vervana, heading to New York in a few weeks so might pick one up over there. :)
