Orange Light District
As you may know, I went to Amsterdam last weekend with Kev. I didn't actually pick up anything in the city itself but, being the self-confessed Duty Free junkie that I am, I snapped up two make-up items; one on the way over and one on the way back! A few of you were asking me what I bought on my trip so, here they are!
Coincidentally, they are both bright orange and, now that I think about it, I have been kind of obsessed with the shade over the last few weeks. I don’t really know why but, when I see it, it makes me feel summery and fresh and energetic.
In Dublin Airport, after swatching what seemed like every single make-up item in Terminal 2, I settled on a YSL Rouge Volupte. I’ve been lusting after one of these for ages and this one in #14 Orange Shiver really caught my eye. It’s a bright, sorbet-esque orange that is opaque and comfortable to wear with a creamy matte finish. I’m already dying to get my hands on more of these but, my one gripe is that the shade selection isn’t great and I feel like I already have similar colours in my collection. I’d love for YSL to revamp the Rouge Voluptes with some new and unique shades (A colour like MAC Viva Glam Nicki in the Rouge Volupte formula and finish would be INSANE!).
On the way home I was fully prepared to go mad in Schipol Airport's Duty Free. However, and I don’t know if it was the fact that I was still stressed out from a confusing check-in procedure (If it is an Aer Lingus flight but, operated by KLM, surely Aer Lingus should note this and that you must check-in with KLM and not spend ages searching for Aer Lingus desks, right?!) or a new level of maturity kicking in now that I am at the ripe old age of 22 (Yeah right!) but, there was very little there that I could justify buying. Sure, there was stuff that was nice but, nothing I genuinely needed or wanted or felt the urge to spend money on.
The one item I snapped up with glee was the MAC Cremeblend Blush in Optimistic Orange from the recent Shop MAC, Cook MAC collection. A true bright orange, this blush was sold out at both MAC counters in Dublin Airport, the MAC store in Amsterdam and the two further MAC counters I tried in the city. Obviously it was a popular release and, having worn it a few times, it’s easy to see why. The Cremeblend formula is arguably one of the best cream blushes on the market and the colour is truly unique. It is very buildable in terms of pigmentation and looks really great on paler skintones.
Swatches (L-R): YSL Rouge Volupte Orange Shiver, MAC Cremeblend Blush Optimistic Orange (swatched heavily), MAC Cremeblend Blush Optimistic Orange (blended out)
I’m very happy with my loot from Amsterdam as they are both products I really love and will get a lot of use out of. If you'd like to read all about my weekend away you can do so right here!
