La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5: The Ultimate Wonder Product

At this point, you've probably seen a whole host of blog posts explaining about La Roche-Posay's new launch Cicaplast Baume B5 (€12.50 RRP). However, instead of adding to the deluge of overview posts, I wanted to hold off and show you what Cicaplast Baume B5 is actuallu like in action.

Marketed as a universal skin product, Cicaplast BB5  is an all-in-one product that can be used to soothe and repair irritated and altered skin. It is safe for use on the body, face and lips and can be used once the affected skin is not weeping or bleeding.

One of the recommended uses for Cicaplast BB5 was on eczema and, as we all know, I do have a bit of the annoying skin condition on my lower legs. So, with that in mind, I wanted to trial this product for you, using it twice a day for two weeks and demonstrating its effectiveness with the help of before and after pictures.

Now, as any blogger will know, capturing the subtle nuances of skin texture, foundation finishes and hair sleekness on camera is very difficult so, you'll have to trust my observations as an aide to the pictures if the difference in the scarring is not entirely obvious.

The Science

In case you don't read very many blogs or, you have just stumbled across this post by chance, I'll give a condensed overview of the science behind Cicaplast Baume B5.

Firstly, and most importantly, Baume B5 contains 5% panthenol. Panthenol is a biologically stable form of Pro-vitamin B5 and is used in creams for its soothing and pain-killing properties. 5% panthenol is the highest dose ever achieved in a dermo-cosmetic treatment so, in this respect, La Roche-Posay is a market leader with Cicaplast Baume B5.

The other primary ingredients in Baume B5 include shea butter and glycerine to moisturise and repair the skin barrier, Madecassoside to stimulate and accelerate repair and copper, zinc and manganese for their antibacterial action.

All of these ingredients combined make this the perfect multi-use cream for eczema, dryness, nappy rash, grazes, cracks, chapped lips, itching, heating sensation and sunburn to name but a few skin conditions. All you need to remember really is, if the skin is suppurating, don't use it until it's healed!

The Results

I hope it's obvious from the below pictures how much this eczema scar has improved. On Day 1, it was risen, scaly, flaky and very itchy. I applied Cicaplast Baume B5 the night I received it from the press launch and, the next morning, there was a noticeable difference in how much the scar jutted out from the surface of my skin. It also felt smoother and was a lot less flaky though, any good moisturiser has this affect on eczema so, my interest was to see how prolonged the hydrating effects were.

I kept an eye on how the scar was progressing over the following days and realised that it was looking a lot less obvious. While this concern for how aesthetically pleasing it looks may seem insignificant or even downright shallow, it is important to me because I haven't really had the confidence in years to comfortably wear a dress or skirt with no tights because of how awful this mark looked.

As I hope you can see, by Day 14, the scar has drastically changed in size, shape and texture. Where before I could look down at my leg and see the scar jutting out from my calf, now it is almost entirely flat against my skin. It has that stretched, taut appearance to it that I associate with burns healing and there is little to no dryness on a day-to-day basis.

On an irritant level, there is no itching anymore whatsoever. Usually when my body temperature increases like during the gym, in the shower or after being asleep under a duvet, my eczema would be really red and irritated and feel like it was burning up however, I haven't noticed that sensation at all since I started using the Baume B5.

The Verdict

After two weeks of applying Cicaplast Baume B5 twice-a-day, usually in the mornings and again before bed, I have noticed a huge difference in the appearance and feel of my eczema. It doesn't hurt or irritate me anymore and sporadic flare-ups are, fingers crossed, a thing of the past.

While it's still not perfect looking, it is so, so much better than it was a mere two weeks ago. Even at this early stage I would be confident and happy to go out in a dress and bare legs and, it is my hope, that the scar continues to shrink and fade as I continue to use Cicaplast Baume B5.

This is definitely one product I will be stocking up on again and again!

  1. Great improvement, you can def see how much less flakey it is and so much smoother. I looked for this in my local LRP stockist but they didn't have it. I have been having problems with my arm lately, might be worth a try

    1. Thanks Laura, feel great about how much it has improved in such a short space of time. It's probably just being rolled out across the country now so, I would keep checking back!

  2. So happy that this helped improve your skin, you can really see the difference! Nothing worse than having painful skin:/
I can't recall if you've used Hydrocortisyl before or not but I used it about a month ago when I developed a huge eczema rash that covered the whole front of my neck and it cleared it up within 2-3 days. It might be something else to consider trying as well:) x

    1. Thanks! I have used it way back when and, unfortunately, it didn't help at all! Eczema is the worst! x
