Avène Eau Thermale Emollient Balm and Cold Cream

If you've been reading the blog for any length of time, you'll know that I have a pretty fraught relationship with eczema.

In brief, I suffered with terrible childhood eczema for many years and then, as it tends to do, it disappeared. However, maybe 6 years ago it returned with a vengeance as random patches on my lower legs.

I've tried everything on the market and seen one of the country's top dermatologists in a vain attempt to rid my legs of the awful marks, painful and itchy sores.

While I have got it moderately under control. I'm always on the lookout for the next big thing and I'm open to trying anything that might just clear the marks away entirely. So, needless to say my interest was piqued when an email landed in my inbox about Avène's Eau Thermale, a range of products from the French brand which specifically address a number of dermatological conditions like atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema and burns.

The brand kindly offered to send me over some of the range to try on my eczema and I have been using the Emollient Balm on it for around two weeks now with great results. Dryness and itchiness has been greatly reduced and, while I can't say for certain yet if it is fading the scarring left behind, it definitely appears less noticeable to me which is brilliant!

They also sent over a small tube of Cold Cream for lips which couldn't have come at a more perfect time as my lips were all kinds of dry, flaky and raw. This, like the balm, is very thick so, a little goes a long way. After a week of us, the redness and dryness has almost disappeared totally and I only need to apply it once in the mornings after wakening up!

I honestly felt like I was getting a bit long in the tooth when it came to using products to "cure" my eczema. I was becoming quite disillusioned that anything would work and, while it's not conclusive that Avène's offering is going to be 100% effective in the long run, 2 weeks in it is already 95% there and making my ailment, however small it may be, a lot more manageable.
