New! Avon Shine Attract Lipsticks and Ideal Flawless Foundation: First Impressions and Swatches

This evening we met Jackie Tyson, Avon's celebrity make-up consultant, to coincide with the launch of some really exciting new offerings from the brand.

Jackie has an impressive portfolio of clientele, having worked on The X Factor (not this year-thankfully) and also with Bat For Lashes, Katy Perry, Lily Allen, Yasmin Le Bon, Rilo Kiley, Yoko Ono, Avril Lavigne, Daniel Craig, Kasabian, Jon Bon Jovi, Snow Patrol, Pet Shop Boys, Brandon Flowers, Coldplay, Blur, Oasis and Radiohead. How's that for a long list?!

We were met in the penthouse of the Morgan Hotel in Temple Bar (fancy!) with an array of new products to play with.

First up is a look at some stunning lipsticks from the new Shine Attract line (€11), launching January 2012. You all know we love our lippie a lot and these have got us so excited!

If you look closely, you can see the bullet is made up of a stick of pigment surrounded by a clear ring. The clear part is a glossy vitamin E gel balm that blends perfectly with the colour to create a smooth, shiny finish. If you're a little afraid of full-on lipstick, these are a great way to dip your toe in the water. Jackie advised that you could use a lip brush to get right in at the pigment, but I'd be afraid of ruining the bullet!

We got a few of the shades to swatch and we swatched them just once to show how sheer they are as this is, technically, how we are supposed to use them. We are particularly enamored with Passionate Red, Happy Pink and Guava! Oh, and they all contain SPF15 which is always great!

Swatches (L-R): Passionate Red, Copper Connection, Happy Pink, Natural Glow, Rose Bouquet and Guava

Next we have something that has really excited us both. Avon aren't exactly known for their foundations, but this could all change soon with their latest offering. Ideal Flawless claims to do, well, pretty much what we all want our foundation to do - cover, last and make skin look perfect. The formula of Ideal Flawless (€15.50, available from February) contains SPF 15, and 'OptiLuxe' pigments to add radiance. Jackie assured us that it photographs well in spite of the SPF - we'll be sure to report back in any case.

I really have high hopes for this stuff - as I said to Jackie, it reminds me of Revlon PhotoReady with better coverage. I used to mix my PhotoReady with Studio Fix to achieve that, so hopefully it'll live up to its claims.
The packaging is also very impressive - quite Chanel-esque!

There's also an Ideal Flawless Pressed Powder to go with the foundation, which comes in three basic shades - Light, Medium and Dark. It seems nice on first impressions, but nothing extraordinary either! The packaging looks nice and sleek, and we'll be sure to review this properly at a later date. A concealer will also be launched soon to complete the Ideal Flawless range, so we'll keep you posted on that as well!

See anything you like here? Are you a fan of Avon?
