YSL The New Blacks Collection Overview (and a reason to treat yourself!)

This collection is so beautiful it almost pains me to touch and use the products. I just want to lay them all out and stare at them. Sad but, true.

The New Blacks (or Noirs Couleurs if you want to get fancy!) features a stunning array of eyeliner (gel and felt tip), mascara and nail polish. All products are black but, with a gem-toned twist; the new blacks, geddit?!

We recently received a few products from the collection to try out. Initial impressions come solely from the packaging and, as with all YSL launches, it's gorgeous. Chunky and gold, luxurious and expensive, these products will set you back a few bob but, just imagine them sitting on your dresser and you won't be able to resist!

The mascaras in this collection are called Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking (€31.00) and are basically cult-favourite Faux Cils on speed, featuring a new lengthening and curling wand as well as a new thickening and curling formula. Combine those advancements with six gem-tone shades (Deep Black, Ashy Black, Bronze Black, Sea Black, Cherry Black and Jade Black) and, it's safe to say that you've got one hell of a mascara!

We received Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking in the shades Ashy Black and Jade Black and, we'll be trialing these over the next week or so before we report back to you with a review. As you can see from the pictures below, the different colour tones are not incredibly obvious so, if you're not gone on the idea of in-yo'-face, brightly coloured mascara, this definitely seems to be the more subtle and mature option!

The Eyeliner Effet Faux Cils Shocking (€28.00) really seem to be the gem, if you will pardon the pun, of this collection. The different shades provide for an exciting alternative to the standard black gel liner while also being work/school appropriate. I got the shade Bronze Black and, while I have only swatched it once, it boasts amazing pigmentation, micro-glitter (I was trying to capture this which explains the 4 shots below!) and a super creamy texture. I don't like to speak too soon but, this could be a contender to knock my current Holy Grail liner off the top spot! Will keep you posted.

Finally, we come to La Laque (€20.00), the nail polishes. A twenty-spot seems a bit steep for 6ml of product but, in the eternal words of one Rachel Zoe, I DIE for these colours; Black Bronze, Black Lapis and Black Indigo. Sigh. All are limited edition, all are equally stunning. It would be too hard to choose just the one, I fear.

La Laque: Black Lapis

Here is Black Lapis swatched. It is a gorgeous teal-blue which looks different under different lights as is illustrated above. This is one coat people, one! These seem extremely pigmented and dry super quickly though, it is worth noting that they do dry darker than the bottle colour. I have painted my nails with this now and added my favourite top coat so, I will let you know how this holds up.

Noirs Couleurs also boasts felt-tip eyeliner pens (€31.00) and a cream eyeliner brush (€28.00) and will be available on counters from 21st September.

And now ladies, here is how you can justify moseying over to the YSL counter to take a peep at this collection. From now until the end of September, when you pop into Brown Thomas Dublin, Cork, Galway or Limerick, you can receive a complimentary smokey eye make-over to coincide with the exclusive launch of of the collection in BT stores! Sure, that's as good a reason as any in my book!

  1. I love it all, I better start saving!

  2. That gel liner looks amazing! Definitely need that in my life! xx

  3. So excited to hear about the mascaras. The wands look fab.
