Emporio Armani Diamonds Black Carat

You might remember we received a bottle of Emporio Armani Diamonds perfume as our swag at the L'Oréal Colour Trophy Awards back in June. I was really surprised that I liked it as I usually prefer very rich, heavy scents (think Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb) and Diamonds is a relatively light fragrance with obvious notes that are fresh, fruity and tangy.

While I have been using and loving Diamonds on an almost daily basis since I received it, I was really intrigued when we got word that a richer, headier version of the scent was en route to be sold exclusively in the UK and Ireland. Diamonds Black Carat is definitely the more sensuous older sister of the original Diamonds. The scent is incredibly deep and strong without being pungent or overpowering.

Its notes are of Bulgarian rose, freesia, vanilla bourbon and vanilla bean and these work together to produce a fragrance that manages to be both deep and fresh all at once. To my untrained snoz, the vanilla bourbon really stands out and gives the perfume its musky, warm scent that is altogether addictive. The floral notes are definitely apparent, though they are not the prime focus.

Armani himself used words like "fire" and "sensuality" to describe how the Diamonds fragrances embody and represent the "Emporio Armani couple" and, with Black Carat, those adjectives ring true. It is an extremely sexy scent, if perhaps a bit on the mature side (which I like but, others may not) and the bourbon/vanilla mix make this a "warm" perfume if ever there was such a thing. I gravitate towards fragrances like this for Autumn/Winter and will most definitely be favouring it over its lighter sibling for the foreseeable future.

Oh, and if you want to truly embody the Emporio Armani couple, you can get your significant other Black Carat Homme; a mix of citrus-bergamot, Szechuan pepper, cocoa bean, Gaiac Wood and ceder. Twinsies!

Emporio Armani Diamonds Black Carat for Her (€61.50 for 50ml) and for Him (€53.50 for 50ml) will be available nationwide from October 2011.
